The Battle is over, but the War is not yet won
How good it was to have students back on site in Week 1. This was especially the case after all the nervous preparation and constant second-guessing of government decisions in the media during the Easter holiday. Now that there are just two active COVID-19 cases in South Australia, we can rightly believe the battle is over. However, is celebrating victory the correct thing to do when there are those who have died and the risk of a return still present? It is a difficult question to answer, but I believe, no less than I did last term, that we should not let fear drive us. That is why I have started the term feeling positive about getting back to achieving all that we set out to do in my first year at the School.
My goals for Term 2 include continuing our focus on high quality teaching and learning, using our new technologies in support of that, preparing for subject selection and timetable processes for 2021 (Yes, I’m already thinking ahead to next year!), working with our Business Manager on careful stewarding of our finances for the long recovery road ahead, and planning for the Semester 2 activities on campus, for when restrictions are lifted and we can recommence school and community activities.
Please do make contact with me via phone, email, Zoom (and hopefully soon face-to-face) if you would like to discuss with me any aspects of the 2020 (or 2021) year, now that we can start looking further ahead than just a day at a time, which we were doing when the pandemic felt like it was on top of us.
