FLOURISH:  In March, the Yr 8 VHAP and Strive students had the opportunity to join in on Geelong Tech School’s Industry Design Sprint. The three-day event connected students with local industry to creatively solve a real-life problem businesses face. For this challenge, Thornton Engineering and GenU were invited to work with our future leaders.

Students were mentored by teachers from Deakin University, the Gordon and Geelong Tech School to come up with cost-effective designs for a footbridge over the Barwon River which could be built using robotic labour, and a method of moving vegetable boxes for people in wheelchairs.

Our students worked collaboratively in teams with students from schools across Geelong to develop computer aided designs and build 3D models to test their solutions. The event concludes with students presenting their workable solution to industry leaders in a ‘pitch’ to determine which design will win the ‘business contract’.

Year 9 Outdoor Education ~ Wensleydale Camp

"On April the 3rd to the 5th the Year 9 Outdoor Education classes headed to Wensleydale for a camp. Some of the highlights were making S’mores around the fire, mountain biking and playing camouflage.  Something I learnt was how to start a fire. "

Year 9 Coastal Guardians Program

UNITE:  Last week, our Year 9 Students travelled to Torquay Main Beach and engaged in the Coastal Guardians program run by GORCAPA (Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority).  This program is a wonderful opportunity for students to connect and be involved in activities to protect their local environment.

During the lesson, students completed a Coastal Impact Assessment, learnt about the impact of invasive species on dune systems and participated in Marram grass removal.

Year 9 Girl In Charge ~ Strong Women

STRIVE: The Girl In Charge/Strong Women eve was amazing and so inspiring for the girls.  All our girls achieved things they'd never thought they would be able to achieve!

Year 11 & 12 Women In Trade

Our Year 11 & 12 Vocational Major students had a great session with Viva Energy, learning about Women in Trade.  Our students were really engaged and there was a lot of enthusiasm and interest from our own young female students.   Our students donned the tools, listening and learning about women in trade, the pathways it can take and support networks.

Such a wonderful representation of SCSC, well done to all involved!

Farmer Strong Sensation

STRIVE: Last term, the Farmer Strong competition was held on a Sunday at Inglenook Dairy Farm in Dunnstown.  Events were a tractor pull, a potato sack loading medley (including a wheelbarrow run, a sack of potatoes farmer's carry-and-hold, a car press and a mystery event.)  Our very own Jasmine (Jazz) Hoare competed in the "Under 180kg Male/Female" competition.  Jazz came away with 3rd place and won a cowbell, 2 litres of milk and a sack of spuds.

This woman is STRONG (you should see her  pulling a tractor)!  Super impressive! Congratulations Jazz - another exemplary role model from our Girl In Charge Program.
