Religion

The Eucharist: Celebrating Jesus’ Presence. Students explore the celebratory nature of the Eucharist. They examine the origins of the Eucharist in the scripture stories of the Passover and the Last Supper. Students investigate the parts of the Mass and the symbols, signs and rituals in each part. They are given the opportunity to consider the significance of the Mass in their own lives. 

Literacy

Reading

Children will engage in reading programs which involve reading and discussing a shared text with peers and completing vocabulary, word study and comprehension activities. Looking at deeper comprehension during rotational activities using Literature Circles using collaborative and student centred learning.

Included during Reading is our Smart Spelling program focusing on phonics. Use of Fountas and Pinnell assessment to guide reading in decoding and comprehension.

Writing

Throughout this semester, children will be focussing on Information Report Writing and Procedural Writing. Students will learn about each genre's planning and construction. They will enhance their pieces through conference work that will focus on idea formation, text structure, grammar and editing.

 

Speaking and listening

Children will have opportunities to develop skills required for: asking clarifying questions, reporting back to groups and responding appropriately when part of an audience.

Maths

2D and 3D shapes 

  • Students will learn to make models of three-dimensional objects and describe key features 

Angles

  • Students will learn to identify angles as measures of turn and compare angle sizes in everyday situations 
  • Students will learn to measure, order and compare objects using familiar metric units of length and area 

Multiplication and Division Strategies 

  • Students will learn to apply various strategies to multiply and divide numbers for one by two digit equations e.g. 2x34
  • Students will practise instant recall of multiplication facts two, three, five and ten and their related division facts 
  • Students will learn about the inverse relationship between multiplication and division

Inquiry

Children will learn about changes over time and how those changes affect our lives. They will consider changes in their community as they explore historic buildings in the local area. Students will learn about people who shaped our interconnected world as they research the life and legacy of an explorer from the 'Age of Exploration'. They will also learn about the significance of celebrations and symbols in Australia and around the world.

Wellbeing

This term students will be participating in the Resilience Project. During the wellbeing unit students will learn about three key pillars proven to cultivate positive emotion: Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness (GEM).

Students will be provided with emotionally engaging learning opportunities to develop practical wellbeing strategies and build resilience.
