Religion

Students will explore the first creation account in Genesis to learn about God as creator, the goodness of creation and creation as a reflection of God’s love. Students will also learn about the Sunday celebration of the Mass. They will explore Sunday as the special day when Catholics gather at the Mass to listen, remember and give thanks to God, receive Holy Communion and go out to love and serve the Lord. 

Literacy

Reading

Students will participate in a variety of activities to meet their needs

  • Read silently to themselves and aloud to an audience
  • Participate in teacher-led, guided reading sessions
  • Understand and decode unknown words. 
  • Make predictions before and while reading a text
  • Develop their inferencing skills to better understand a text
  • Practise and develop fluency and phrasing when reading

Writing

Students will participate in a variety of activities to meet their needs

  • Participate in handwriting sessions, focussing on the correct formation of letters
  • Experience different writing genres: Recount, Explanation and Persuasive
  • Develop their knowledge of correct 
    punctuation and grammar

Speaking and Listening

Students will be given opportunities to engage in ‘Show and Tell’. This valuable 

experience will focus on building various important skills: 

  • confidence

  • clear articulation 
  • focussed listening 
  • appropriate and relevant questioning and answering 

Students will also practice their speaking and listening during guided reading rotations.

Inquiry

CHANGE: Stimulating Science 

Students will consider changes that we experience in our lives through the lenses of biology, earth and space science, chemistry, and physics. They will make predictions and scientific observations throughout the unit. Students will show what they have learnt by identifying 'science' in their classroom and recording their understanding of each branch of science.
