Religion
Students learn about Jesus Christ’s passion, death and resurrection and the sending of Jesus Spirit through New Testament stories which explore these events and experiences.
In the unit ‘God’s Great Family’, students explore how they belong to God’s family, the Good Shepherd and the People of God. They learn about some of the people in Jesus Christ’s family and some of the Gospel stories concerned with his childhood.
Literacy
The children will continue to be immersed in daily modelling of reading and writing strategies. They will experience opportunities to practise these skills through learning experiences and activities.
Reading
- recognise and say the names and sounds made by each upper and lower-case letter of the alphabet
- blend together common sounds to read short words (e.g. c-a-t)
- identify the initial and final sounds in words
- recognise the SMART Spelling words and the high frequency words
- use comprehension strategies such as making predictions about a chosen text and visualising to enhance meaning
Writing
- recognise that written forms remain the same
- continue building awareness of the sound system and the relationships between letters and sounds in words when spelling
- use simple punctuation such as full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks and question marks
- create their own written texts in the genres of recount, retell and procedural writing
- read their own written text aloud to the teacher and others
Speaking and Listening
- use appropriate use of voice for Chit Chat and group work
- share home experiences of the ‘take-home toy’
Maths
Number
- compare, order and make collections of objects to 20
- name the relative position of an object in a small ordered collection using ordinal numbers such as first - 1st to tenth - 10th
- add small groups of numbers using visual displays or concrete materials and the strategies of counting all, counting on and counting up
- explore the concept of more or less, for example, 1 more than 3 is 4 and one less than 3 is 2
- use toy money to pay for goods in play situations
- skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s
Measurement, Geometry and Space
- recognise simple 2D shapes
- exposure to 3D shapes
- make and continue patterns using shapes
- use the language of position to describe an object's position, orientation and direction
- identify and order the Days of the Week
- connect the Days of the Week to familiar events
- exposure to the Months of the Year
- simple tallies and graphs
Wellbeing
This term, students will engage in The Resilience Project to build their wellbeing and resilience. They will participate in sessions focusing on the key pillars of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy.
