Year 10, 11 & 12

Assistant Principal's Report

Congratulations to all Years 10, 11 and 12 students on the completion of the mid-year examinations. Throughout the examinations, students followed examination guidelines and the school values of Respect, Co-operation and Excellence and we are pleased with some of the excellent results achieved.

All students were given a college planner (diary) at the commencement of this year and I encourage all parents to look through this planner and support your child to use it for writing in important dates and homework. Please use and check the planner for two way communication, between home and the school.

Students have commenced their subject selection choices for next year and please support your child with this process by being actively involved in their decision making.

Year 12 students

Year 12 students are now over the halfway mark and it is time to put some extra hard work in place and for students to believe in themselves.  If you believe that you will succeed, you will because you are motivated to do so, and you will do whatever you have to do to accomplish your goals.

Resilience is an important part of adolescence and I encourage all students to strive for their best and not to give up on their studies and their future aspirations. Year 12 students, work hard and do not give up, it will not be too long before your last year of secondary school will be over!

As Year 12 students approach the age of possibly driving to school, it is timely to remind families about the Driving to School agreement that was sent out earlier this year and is attached as well. It outlines all the expectations and requirements for any student who is driving to school.

We would like to remind families to continue to support the school in ensuring that students are at school in correct school uniform. Again we would like to put a call out, to any families who have spare uniform, where students may have outgrown it, to please consider donating these items to student services. We have many families who would be very appreciative of being able to access these items. We can assure you that we will get them to the right families.

To date, many parents may have received letters outlining their child’s absences. It is of utmost importance that parents, and students familiarise themselves with the College’s Attendance Policy, in order to ensure that students are not at risk of failing because of missing too many classes. In particular, parents should note that family holidays which take place during the school term are not considered an approved absence, and as such may impact upon the student’s satisfactory completion of their coursework. Parents/carers responsibility is to inform the school of any unexplained absences, as soon as practicable on the same day of the absence. If you have any questions about attendance, please see you child’s tutor teacher

I would like to wish all students a relaxing school holiday break and I look forward to seeing all students at school, ready to learn, at the commencement of Term 3.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10

Year 10 Report

It’s been a busy term for our Year 10's, with our focus on career pathways coming to a head.   Students are going through our interview process for the Vocational Major and VCE VIP program for 2024. It is a good opportunity for students to reflect on the work they have done this year and what they need to do ahead of Year 11.

Last week our cohort went to the Italian Sports Club to meet with industry mentors for our Straigh Talk program. In partnership with The Smith Family, the day was an opportunity for our Year 10's to talk about their future careers and how they can use school to help them get there. Our Year 10's set a fantastic example and our partners were very impressed with their participation in discussions and questions they had. To the right, is one of the great exercises our partners from the University of Melbourne veterinary school brought along.

With our new semester starting, our Year 10's have started work in their new round of electives. Already we are seeing great work and enthusiasm for learning new things and trying out subjects they may not have encountered before.  Some samples of what Year 10's have produced so far are in the photos below – amazing, creative stuff!

With the end of the semester the Year 10 team would like to thank parents and carers for their support in ensuring their students come to school on time and ready to learn. We will continue to support students to demonstrate high expectations of themselves and their work and your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday period, and we look forward to seeing everybody back next term ready to excel.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 11

Year 11 Report

Year 11 students have continued working towards their end of semester one goals throughout term two. Many students have made important steps in achieving their academic, social and emotional and personal goals throughout this term. Term 2 has seen many great whole school events that have celebrated and highlighted the diversity of our college, students were able to test their academic rigour and knowledge obtained in unit 1 through our examination period. Attendance and success were a plenty throughout the examination period and we applaud our students for their efforts, in their first VCE examination period.

In week 4 of term, students celebrated the diversity of the College through our Multicultural Week festivities. Throughout the week there were many activities including mapping out students’ heritage on a World map. Students were able to identify their own or ancestor’s heritage and develop an understanding of the cultural diversity within their tutor group and Year 11 Cohort. The Out of Uniform day enabled students to dress in their Country of Origin or National Dress, many students displayed their national colours with pride, and this provided a platform for discussion about the diversity within our school community.

In early Term 3, students will be undertaking their second Elevate workshop of 2023. In term 1 the students undertook the student elevation seminar which is an essential skill in maintain focus and motivation. In Week 5 of next term, students will take part in the Memory Mnemonics Workshop which will cover overcoming reliance upon rote learning, the role of attention in memory and managing distractions and semantic learning techniques for higher level memorisation.

In recent weeks, there has been an increased expectation on uniform, arriving to school on time and mobile phones. The Year 11 team appreciate the work families have been doing at home, reinforcing the importance of the following in conjunction with the work being undertaken at school. Moving into semester 2, it is important these expectations are still continually met and adhered too to enable students to focus more on their learning opportunities.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact your child’s tutor teacher or myself.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 12

Year 12 Report

Thank you to all parents and carers who have supported our students so far this year. The students will have one more term to get through content before End of Year Exams and Graduation.

VCE Exams

The VCE school-based exams ran from Thursday 1st of June – Thursday 8th of June. This was an opportunity for students to practice being in exam conditions, exam preparation and revision strategies for their end of year exams. These exams provides teachers with an opportunity to determine gaps in the student’s knowledge and will work with students to ensure readiness for the End of Year Examinations.

A thank you to those students who conducted themselves with integrity during the exams. Students were able to follow processes, displaying readiness by arriving on time and with the relevant equipment. Those students who revised and mentally prepared themselves for their exams well done! This will all be replicated in the end of year exams, with students feeling more comfortable knowing the processes and expectations.

Carers Expo

On the 14th of July, all Year 12 students will be attending the Melbourne Careers Expo. This is an opportunity for the students to engage in possible future career options and ask questions from universities, TAFEs, apprenticeship and employment opportunities for next year. It’s a free event and we will be taking the train into the city, so please make sure you have a Myki with sufficient credit. Skyline Hatch Program Students participated in their first out of four Skyline sessions on the 10th May. The Skyline Program is an organisation that we have implemented at only Year 12 in which delivers a range of sessions over key programs such as VCE Hack (Study Skills), SAC Preparation, GAT Preparation, Stress Hack and the Exam Revision Series.

Hatch offerings have a focus on building the resilience of students, supporting the development of strong foundations to support the way that students approach study and the provision of curriculum aligned study and revision sessions. Students will complete the remaining sessions in Term 3.
