Principal's Report

Dear Wyndham Central College community,

Welcome to our new look newsletter and we hope you like the new format.

I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter which is a celebration of all the work that our students have achieved throughout term two; we have now commenced semester two which will mean new elective subjects for many students.

I am committed to supporting all staff to develop our learners to reach their full potential, to encourage excellence in education and provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to develop and succeed in all areas of the curriculum.  It is always pleasing when student’s make the most of the opportunities offered to them and that they achieve their best. There are many examples, throughout this newsletter, where our students have participated and excelled in many different areas.

Congratulations to all student’s on the completion of the mid-year examinations. Throughout the examination’s, student’s followed examination guidelines and the school values of Respect, Co-operation and Excellence and we are pleased with some of the excellent results achieved.

Semester one reports will be distributed to students at the end of this term and students will complete an activity to reflect on their semester one school work. I encourage all parents to take the time to sit down with your child and discuss their progress and to assist them in ensuring that a daily homework and home study routine is put in place.  Homework is work that is set by a classroom teacher by a set date, home study is when a student does revision work such as reading over notes taken throughout the day and doing general study.

Annual School Report 2022

An opportunity was made available for all members of the community to attend a public meeting of the school council on Wednesday 14th June at 5pm for the deliverance of the Wyndham Central College “Annual Report to The School Community”. The report provided an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community and this included reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the positive impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.

Attitudes to Schools Survey

We have now completed the Department of Education (DoE) Attitudes to Schools Survey with all students from year’s 7- 12. The College values student voice and once we receive the summary results, we will analyse the data and look at ways for improvement, with student feedback, to continue to improve our programs and whole school learning environment. We encourage our students to utilise the Student Representative Council (SRC) as a form of student voice in the regular meetings held.

General Achievement Test

The GAT (General Achievement Test) was held on Thursday 15th June in the College gymnasium (this was compulsory for all Year 12 student’s and any Year 11 student’s studying a Year 12 subject).

The GAT plays an important role in the quality assurance of VCE assessment’s and provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate that they meet the Victorian Literacy and Numeracy Standards expected at a senior secondary level. Congratulations to our senior student’s for completing the first part of the VCAA external assessments.

Mobile Phone policy

Please continue to support the school by emphasizing the importance of the mobile phone policy.

A reminder that in accordance with the department’s Mobile Phone Policy, issued by the Minister for Education, personal mobile phones must not be used at Wyndham Central College during school hours (8.50am-3.04pm), including break one and two and they need to be stored in lockers unless an exemption has been granted by the Principal.

School uniform

The wearing of the correct school uniform is important to the Wyndham Central College community, and I ask for your support in ensuring that your child is in the correct uniform before leaving home of a morning.  Student Services is more than happy to support families with uniform items if support is needed.  Please check that your child has the correct uniform, including school shoes and that all is in place for the commencement of term 3.

I would like to encourage all families of our college, to work with us to develop positive relationships between students, teachers and parents/carers and we encourage open and respectful, two-way communication.

I wish all students, staff and the community a restful school holiday period.
