Sports Update
Daryl Porter, H&PE/Sports Coordinator F-12
Welcome back to Term 2 and the start of our Winter season sports.
We often say that Term 1 is a busy term with so many events on, but Term 2 is not much quieter! We have many training sessions and weekly matches plus, interschool competitions during the school day. Some of the units that our students will be taking part in include the Road Safety Excursion held at Thebarton Road Safety Centre, (where students ride bikes and learn road safety practices), Gymnastics, Squash, Strength and Conditioning units, Coaching and Officiating courses and many more practical and health based units across all year levels and campuses.
Later last term we held a number of significant events, including our Year 3-9 House Cross Country competition, Year 7-12 and Year 3-6 SACSA Athletics Carnivals.
Year 3-9 House Cross Country event
Our Year 3-9 House Cross Country event was competed in glorious conditions at Bonython Park and was won by Ruby House. Second place, Topaz and third, Emerald. Our individual age and gender group winners were:
9 Years & Under Boys, 1.5km | Kai |

SACSA Athletic Carnivals
Our SACSA Athletic squads competed at SA Athletics Stadium and competed hard all day in Division 1. Our Year 7-12 squad finished seventh just behind Tyndale Salisbury East campus and our Year 3-6 squad finished sixth again behind Tyndale Salisbury East campus. The standard of competition was high with many state representative athletes from other schools still taking part in this event using it as a warm up for their National Championships, which proved to be very beneficial for those athletes who went on to do very well in Queensland.
These Athletic and Cross Country squads are the largest team-based events that our students take part in. Well done and thank you to all students who stepped up, performing to the best of their abilities, even in events that may not be their strongest discipline.
Year 3-12 SACSA Cross Country Event
The Year 3-12 Cross Country squad will be competing at Carisbrooke Park, Salisbury on Friday 5 May. The weather and track conditions are likely to be very wet and for our runners it will be a challenge to remain warm, light-footed and focused. Hopefully they have been training during the holiday break and can perform their very best!
Winter Season Sports
Our Winter season sports all commence this term. You will have received a lot of email communications about the options for students to register for many weekly sports available.
From these responses we have been able to create and nominate over 20 teams competing in Tennis, Basketball and Soccer across Junior and Middle School.
This term we also have been able to form a relationship with Football Federation of South Australia to be able to offer an 8-week Soccer program for Year 7-9 students. This will hopefully grow into something more in 2024.
Football Boot Donations
As you begin to pull-out your child’s football boots from previous seasons, you may find that they are too small. However, if they are still in good condition, please consider donating them to the College to offer to other students.
Training and Match Updates
It’s so important that our players and families have easy access to training and match times throughout the seasons. We have been working hard to develop and improve our use of TeamApp.
For those who need to view TeamApp for their weekly sports we have created ‘Emmaus Club Sports’ which covers all inter season teams.
We have also created another TeamApp page ‘Emmaus School Sports’ which allows both students and parents/guardians to see all our representative trials, trainings and date of event.
Links about how to register and become members of these pages can be accessed below. If you have any issues, please email or speak to one of the H&PE teachers at either campus.
