Senior School

Welcome to Term 2!
Welcome to Term 2 and the beginning of winter terms and the winter uniform.
I want to thank parents for their support in reinforcing the school uniform and the sense of pride in our College that it endeavours to promote. We often feel tired of reminding our teenage children about what the expectations are, but when it comes to wearing the uniform correctly, (which is reinforced at home) we are able to concentrate on the more important aspects of school life, which is learning.
On a brighter note, we have an exciting term of events for our Senior students, starting with the Generations in Jazz Festival held in Mount Gambier. After three years of an Adelaide base for the Festival it is finally back to its roots in the Mount! We wish the students and staff attending this camp all the best with their performances.
At the end of the term, Year 12 students will attend their Retreat at Victor Harbor, which is a time to reflect on their final semester as a secondary school student and prepare for their end of year with a sense of accomplishment. Both these camps are made possible because of the support of teachers who want to make secondary school the best that it can be. I can still remember my high school camps as being a significant part of my schooling experience even after so many years, which I won’t admit to here.
This term we have many excursions and events which I have listed below for you. This is not the complete list, but is a good starting point.
Week 1 | 1 May 5 - 7 May | Student Free Day Generations in Jazz |
Week 2 | 12 May | Year 10 Career Expo Year 11 & 12 Workplace Practices |
Week 3 | 15 - 19 May | Rijken Cup |
Week 4 | 25 May | Principal's Tour of Middle/Senior School |
Week 6 | 7 June | Music Showcase |
Week 7 | 12 June 13 - 16 June | King’s Birthday Holiday Year 10 Exams |
Week 8 | 19 - 23 June | Year 10 Work Experience |
Week 10 | 5 July 5 - 7 July | Winter Instrumental Evening Year 12 Camp @ Adare |
I pray that we will have a productive term and you and your student will feel a real sense of community we have here at Emmaus,

University Library Access for Year 11 & 12 Students
Did you know Students in Year 11 and 12 are able to access the libraries of Flinders University, University of South Australia and University of Adelaide?
This gives students access to physical resources and online resources. Although there are some stipulations to who items can be accessed and borrowed.
To be able to access these Libraries students need to do the following:
Flinders University
See Emmaus Christian College Library Staff for a form. Once completed and signed by the school, students take this form and their student ID to the Flinders University Library during staffed hours generally Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Please see further details here.
University of Adelaide
See Emmaus Christian College Library Staff to add your details (name and Student ID) to a form the school needs to return. Please see further details here.
University of South Australia
For information about how to join the University of South Australia Library please see further details here.
Parents who are Alumni of any of these Libraries are also able to sign up to free access to the Library of the University they graduated from.
Local Public Libraries, State Library of SA and National Library of Australia
We have also been encouraging Year 11 and 12 Students to sign up as members of their Local Public Library, State Library of South Australia and the National Library of Australia. By being members of any or all of these libraries students have free access to online databases and physical resources on a wide range of topics. This can help to enhance their learning and researching in many of their subjects as these institutions can complement and extend what we are able to provide as a school library service.
All links provided in this article link directly to the information regarding joining any of these Library services.
Students of any year level can join their Local Public Libraries, State Library of SA and the National Library of Australia. However, University Libraries are restricted to Year 11 and 12 students and Old Scholars.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

20 Book Challenge
From the Emmaus Student Book Council
The Emmaus Book Council is a student group for all things book-related, with members from across the Middle and Senior School. This year, the Book Council has created a 20 Book Challenge. Across the year, interested students will read different books that fit into 20 categories including: a book published in the year you were born, a book recommended by a friend, and many more. Those who successfully complete the challenge will be invited to a celebration and will enter the draw for prizes. It’s not too late for students to join the challenge! They can find out more by joining the Google Classroom page with the code: pkmpo7k.
The Book Council will also help to organise events such as Book Week activities and Book Swap sessions. The Book Council strives to encourage and spread the love of reading with everyone.
