Wellbeing in the Corpus Christi Community
Year Prep Community
In Year Prep we have been discussing the power of the word.... Yet!
'I can't' is a common phrase we hear in the Prep classroom. We have been talking about how sometimes we find things a little tricky, but with the right attitude and a little bit of work, we can get there. We have been working on changing the phrase to... 'I can't do it... YET!'
We have read two books with wonderful stories to help springboard meaningful conversations about past successes and goals we would like to work towards.
Giraffe Can't Dance
Giraffes Can't Dance is a wonderful story of Gerald the giraffe, who wants nothing more than to dance. With crooked knees and thin legs, it's harder for Gerald than you would think! Gerald is finally able to dance to his own tune when he gets some encouraging words from an unlikely friend who encourages him to practice, practice practice!
The Dot
The Dot is a gorgeoous story about a young girl Vashti who is finding drawing a little difficult. The words of her art teacher are an invitation to express herself, no matter how big or how small her 'artwork' may be. In a huff and a puff, Vashti jabs a small 'dot' on her paper and hands it into her teacher as her artwork.
That one little dot marks the beginning of a surprise journey and self discovery.
After reading these two books, the Preps discussed times that they found something a little difficult but with a little perseverance, they found success!
