Student Voice and Leadership

Gambling Harm Podcast

In an exciting opportunity for Melton Secondary College, a select number of students recently participated in the Young Leaders of The West Podcast Challenge.

The challenge involved students learning about the devastating impacts of gambling harm on Victorian communities and using the information they learnt to produce a series of podcasts designed to educate their school and local community about the issue.

As part of this authentic real-world experience, students interviewed a Gambler’s Help counsellor, a courageous young man with lived experience of addiction and impressive young people from the Young Leaders of The West program to build their knowledge.

To prepare for their podcast, our students participated in professional radio training and worked in media teams to present and produce their program.

Uniquely, as part of this project, our students will also be taking their work to the world by having their podcasts broadcast on global radio station, LIVE FM (www.livefm.online) this year.

Please keep an eye on Compass for more information about the live broadcast of the student podcasts.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service

ANZAC day is a time to remember those who have served Australia during times of war and conflict.

At this year’s dawn service, student leaders from many schools across Melton came together to pay their respects at dawn and lay a wreath at the memorial. Our school was proudly represented by School Captains Sarah McIntosh and Alifeleti Camilleri-Vailea, and our school Principal Kathryn Sobey.
