Numeracy in the Supermarket - Part 2

Grocery shopping requires a broad range of math knowledge from multiplication to estimation and percentages. Each time you calculate the price per unit, weigh produce, figure percentage discounts, and estimate the final price, you are using math in your shopping experience.

 

Encourages size and proportion comparison, money and budgeting:

  • Compare the unit price of a product for the different sizes. Which one is true value for money?
  • For any product that is marked on sale, check to see if the sale price is in fact cheaper
