Welcome to another fabulous and the final edition of our school newsletter for Term Three – wow, it is amazing to think that three quarters of the school year has almost gone – where does the time go???

Staffing Update

Mr Dilan Ratnayake – tomorrow we farewell Dilan as he moves to Clayton North PS. All the best Dilan and we look forward to hearing from you
For the remainder of this year, Class 2B will taught by Mrs Kylie Bailey. A sincere thank you to Kylie for her willingness to do so as I am very confident that the children will really enjoy having her as their classroom teacher.

Facilities Update

The school holidays are the opportune time to complete tasks throughout our school and as such we have the following tasks planned:

Installation of solar panels:

I am extremely pleased to report that we will have solar panels installed on the gymnasium roof which is anticipated to halve our electricity use and charges, whilst we minimise our carbon footprint.

Installation of additional water tanks: As we continue to monitor and reduce the water usage throughout our school, over the holidays we are installing

Gymnasium: a water tank that will salvage water from the gymnasium roof and will then be used to flush all the urinals and pans in this facility
Main building: a water tank will be installed next to the Out of School Hours Care building which will be used to flush the urinals.

School oval:

The school oval will have additional sand spread on it and will be aerated to enhance growth and drainage

Main building external wall:

As communicated in a recent Compass Post, some of the external bricks on the east side of the main building have loosened and could potentially fall. Over the holidays the bricks will be removed and will be replaced by timber sheeting.

Chess Team

Our Chess Team continue to work hard as they prepare for the various State and National tournaments. Recently they competed in a tournament which contained teams from both secondary and primary schools. At the conclusion they ranked sixth overall and qualified for both the state secondary and primary school championships. In fact they were the highest ranked primary school and simultaneously ranked higher than quite a few secondary schools. As Himath (father of Vidushi and Naveen) mentioned, this is an unprecedented achievement from a primary school team!

Children, words cannot express how proud we all are of you and we look forward to hearing how you go at both State finals next term! Well done and congratulations!!

Victorian State School Spectacular

After two years of not being able to hold this event, this year’s Victorian State School Spectacular was held last Saturday and as usual, it really was an amazing and truly brilliant spectacular! This year’s theme was “Time to Shine” which was quite appropriate particularly considering that it was quite difficult to “shine” over the last 2 years.

Congratulations and well done to the following children for their stellar efforts:

Principal Choir:

Congratulations to Ria (Year 6) who was a member of this year’s Principal Choir which consists of approximately 25 children. Naturally, it is an almighty effort to be selected as the selection process was extensive and gruelling. Ria was also required to attend numerous rehearsals throughout the year including most weekends.

Well done and congratulations Ria!

Mass Choir:

Year 3: Evin, Naksh, Neha, Swara, Krisha, Jaik, Jake, Ngo Shun, Thinuli, Aanya, Vinushi and Dhashari

Year 4: Sophie, Anuki, Aayan, Suwi, Niranjana, Siana, Sachi, Ana, Vinara, Sithmi, Eman, Nehe, Ananda and Ishika

Mass Dance:

Year 5: Ranveer, Aanya, Dilain, Jag, Meera, Sahiba, Julie, Dilu and Seyara

Year 6: Meher, Nimmer, Kalel, Imansa, Lehara, Jiya and Shavini

May I take this opportunity to once again thank the families of the children involved in this year’s State School Spectacular as this too is another imposition for busy families. However, it is such an amazing opportunity for the children and most likely a “once in a lifetime” experience.

As with all school events, our school’s participation in the Victorian State School Spectacular would have not been possible if it were not for the commitment and enthusiasm of our wonderful staff. A sincere thank you and well done to Ms. Cecconello and Mr. Clark for overseeing the Mass Choir the Mass Dances (respectively), and for their wonderful leadership and coordination leading up to, and throughout the Spectacular. Also, a sincere thank you to Mrs. Bhagat, Mrs. James, Mr Welsh and Mr Lewis for their assistance. Congratulations and well done everyone, I hope you are as proud of yourself as I am of you because last Saturday it really was ‘your time to shine!’

2023 Enrolments

I would like to remind families with children who will be beginning school in 2023 that we are taking enrolments now and that they are also closing rapidly as we only have a very small number of positions available. I strongly encourage you to ensure you return your child’s enrolment form to Daniel, Kylie, Daria or Julie in the main office as soon as possible.

We also ask that members of our school community assist us by informing any of their neighbours of the enrolment procedures and direct them to the office to collect an enrolment form or our school website – www.glenps.vic.edu.au School tours are available every Tuesday morning commencing at 9:30 and also upon request. Please call the school on 9802 9938 to book a tour.

Vacation Care Program

Once again our school will be implementing our very own Vacation Care (Holiday Care) program during the forthcoming holidays. Included in this newsletter is an overview of the program and the associated costs.

Please be aware that ALL FAMILIES are entitled to a 50% rebate (which is not means tested) plus a further rebate which is determined by your family’s 2021-2022 annual taxable income.

If you have any questions pertaining to the Vacation Care program please do not hesitate to contact or see Meththa (OSHC coordinator) or me at school.

Reminders

A reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is the final day of the term and the children will be dismissed at 2.30pm.

An assembly will be held in the gymnasium commencing at 1:40 pm where the Principal Learning and the Kiwanis Club’s Terrific Kids Awards will be announced.

I look forward to seeing as many families as possible at our final assembly for the term. Naturally our After School Care Program will commence at 2:30 pm.
