Victorian State Schools Spectacular 2022

Saturday, September 10th marked the first live Victorian State Schools Spectacular since 2019. VSSS this year brought together about 3,000 students from more than 200 government schools across the state. Song, dance, daredevil skating, acrobatics, circus acts and giant puppetry were all on display at John Cain Arena over the weekend.

This year’s theme was ‘Time to Shine’ and featured hits from artists such as Dua Lipa, The Beatles, David Guetta and Kate Bush. All were chosen by the students to reflect what matters most to them: community, friendship and the celebration of life. It has been incredibly rewarding for 43 of our students to be involved in such a high-quality stage production of this scale. For the young performers in our state, the past couple of years have been especially hard and it was truly heart-warming to witness the excitement, bliss, genuine collaboration and fellowship between our school and its neighbours over the last three days of rehearsal and performance.

Our students from Levels Three to Six represented GWPS proudly and enthusiastically, and crafted powerful memories together that they will carry long after their primary school years. Congratulations to all of the students for a wonderful performance and much gratitude goes out to our outstanding staff and parents for their support in the VSSS journey this year. Thank you, Nadia, Mel, Gurbiner, Frank, Ben W, Roland, Helen H and Tejaswini (Aanya Patel's mum). Your support throughout the VSSS production week ensured the students' enjoyment and the event's success.

Please see the official event program as our students are featured on pages 19, 21 and 24. VSSS 2022 will be televised on Channel 7 in December (date and time TBD) though we managed to get some preview images for you!
