Wurundjeri Art Consultation

We have been connecting with Simone Thomson, a Wurundjeri artist, from a teacher conference, to the Year 3s art and culture workshop during their Unit of Inquiry and now a new exciting project. Here is an article from KK (5A):

I am looking forward to moving into our new classrooms in our new building once the works have been finished.

As a school we think it is important to recognize the Aboriginal land the new building is on.

As part of this process, Ms Hui and the Always was, Always will be Group met with Simone Thomson. Simone is an Indigenous artist. We think a painting would be a good idea to show what the school is about and to recognize the First Nations people, history and culture.

Our group spoke about what is important to us as a School with things like a safe, welcoming place where people are kind, inclusive and respectful. Also a place where there is no littering, we keep the school clean, and shared that in art we are learning about indigenous and native flowers as part of our history.

Simone is going to help us with the painting to share our story on what is important to us and we also helped with the colours, borders and paint choices.

Once its done the plan is to hang the painting in our new school reception in the new building to welcome everyone in.
