From the School Leadership Team

From the Principal, Mr. Chant and the Leadership Team.

Dear CJC community,

This week we gathered to celebrate the accreditation of our French Binational year 6 program as part of the ongoing commitment to build a strong language profile at our school for all our students. Congratulations to all involved in the review and the organisation of the celebration held at the French Consulate.

Families who are wanting to enrol their child for Prep 2023 in our Victorian Curriculum program need to contact the office and complete the required forms.

COVID management still remains a priority for our community. The fact that we have very few cases, is a reflection of falling case numbers but also is about the hard work done by families and school staff to manage the COVID program on site. Thanks to everyone who uses sanitiser, wears their masks when required, maintains social distancing and keeps their child at home when they have symptoms.

We held a truly phenomenal Book Parade on Wednesday.  So many amazing favourite character costumes worn by students and staff.  Thank you to all who were involved and a big thank you to the parents who came along and cheered everyone during the parade.

Don't forget our Book Fair next week. Students will attend the Book Fair during their library sessions but it will also be open after school so families can attend together.

Hours of operation for families:  Monday 29th August to Friday 2nd September from 3.30 pm to 4.15 pm and Monday 5th September from 3.30 pm to 4.15 pm.

Please ensure your children bring hats to school. Caulfield Junior College recommends that from mid-August to end of April, and whenever UV levels reach 3 and above, students come to school wearing sun-protective clothing and sunscreen. The Sunsmart UV widget is available on our website to provide everyone with the current UV levels and sun protection times. https://www.caulfieldjc.org.au/for-parents-guardians

Please remember to respond to the 2022 DET Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. This year, we sent the survey to every family instead of a small random selection. Thank you to the families who have already responded. Please contact the school on caulfield.jr.co@education.vic.gov.au if you wish to have the details resent to your email address.

This week we have again hosted visiting students from Kansai University. These young students have been working in year 1 and 2 classes, teaching some engaging science lessons for these classes. Having international guests in our school reflects positively on our community culture and we look forward to this program continuing next year.

In addition, this week, we have updated our Emergency Management Plan and part of this work is ensuring all safety measures meet compliance and we practice our evacuation procedures and student management on a regular basis.

The recent Employee Agreements signed by our Unions and peak bodies allocates a series of Professional Practice days (PPD) for staff. We have followed DET direction and allocated a day as a whole school staff PPD on the last day of term. These days are separate to curriculum days and we will have curriculum days approved by School Council and they will be used to support areas including Curriculum Planning, Professional Learning and Reporting. We have one more day to use as a Curriculum day in 2023. - There will be no school on on 16th September. The final day of school for students, for term 3 will be Thursday September 15th. School will end at 3.30 pm.

Year 6 Accreditation Celebration at the French Honorary Consulate.

Last Tuesday, members within the French Education in Melbourne gathered at the Honorary Consulate to celebrate the CJC Year 6 Binational Program Accreditation.

Caulfield Junior College has been approved by the French Ministry of Education since 2009, from Grande Section (Prep) to CM2 (Grade 5), and it is finally in 2022 that we obtain approval for our Year 6 classes. As a result, Melbourne students can now enrol in an accredited French Binational Program from Prep to year 9 at CJC and Auburn High School.

Many thanks to Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie for welcoming us at the Honorary Consulate, to Mr. Boris Toucas, Head of Education, to Mrs Nina Taylor, Member of Parliament, representative of the Ministry of Education and Mr Simon Hamilton, Executive Director of the South Eastern Region, for attending our celebration.

I also would like to thank both parents, Sandy and Clarel, who helped make this evening a success by offering their assistance.

This accreditation is fantastic news for CJC. This accreditation would never have happened without the passion and dedication that our teachers have applied to our unique program.
