Performing Arts Matters
What a fantastic concert we had last Friday evening, 2 September. We certainly farewelled our senior students in style. Thanks to all who contributed to this night; from PAPA who fed the students to the Ensemble Directors and teachers who instruct the students, to you the parents for supporting the performing arts at SPX and finally our student performers. It's wonderful to be performing again.
This week we have our Year 12 students presenting their performances to the HSC examiners. For some it is the culmination of 8 years of work and practice. We wish them well in their examinations.
This week we also presented the Gold Colour Award to Anthony Elliott of Year 12. Anthony is a fine musician known for his renditions of the Last Post and Reveille. Anthony has also represented SPX at numerous band contests and solo contests. Congratulations Anthony on your well deserved award.
Coming up on Monday 19 September, at 6.00 pm at the Sarto is the screening of our Climate Change Project movies. There will also be some music and a few drama skits. Come along and support Ms Lindley and our Drama students.

Year 6 Violin Lessons
This term, Year 6 have been learning how to play the violin in their weekly music lessons. It has been a good challenge for them in co-ordination as well as concentration in learning how to use the bow to play on the different strings. Below is a short video of a group of students playing what they have been learning this term!

Drama Matters
Year 9 - 11 Drama Excursion
Last Wednesday we travelled to the Rosyln Packer Theatre to see Pip’s Williams’ epic new adaptation of the novel Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. Once again we were witness to top class acting and this filmic style Williams has developed over his tenure at Sydney Theatre Company. Students from Years 9-11 Elective Drama were hugely entertained by this epic story – please read the Sydney Morning Herald review to get a feel for the production. This is the same team who presented the wonderful The Picture of Dorian Gray which we saw earlier in the year. There were some interesting themes and issues for the students to consider such as the role of class, religion, masculinity and the understanding of self. This text really gets to the heart of the public and private self and how to live in society – not just for the Victorians but for us in contemporary society.
