STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Senior Boys Basketball

On Tuesday 13th September the Senior boys basketball competed in State basketball at Parkville. We didn’t really know much about any of the teams we were playing or what to expect. Our first match was against Bendigo Senior SC. We got off to a slow start, but the scores were level at 16 all by half time. Unfortunately, Bendigo came out of the break firing and were able to pull away resulting in a 27-41 point loss for the boys.

Our next match was against Maribyrnong College. We got off to a better start this match, however we were not able to overcome their consistent pressure and small mistakes cost ended up costing us and we lost 35-55.

Our last game was against Catholic College Wodonga and the boys were feeling optimistic. They got off to a great start and never looked back, applying strong defensive pressure and a high level of intensity that we hadn’t been able to sustain for the first two games. The boys walked away with a strong win 62-36 to finish off the day.

A massive congratulations to the team on such an outstanding effort: Mitch D, Mitch T, Oscar D, Ty G, Aiden L, Ethan R, Isaac M, Kal P, Abhi K and Hayden L.

Also a special thanks to our helpers Hudson W and Dylan S.

You have been a pleasure to coach and you should all be very proud of what you have achieved.

YEAR 7 DIVISION ROUND ROBIN

Girls Basketball

Congratulations to the Year 7 Girls Basketball A-Team for a brilliant day out at Region.

The girls won all three of their matches against Highvale 30-20, Glen Waverley 31-15 and Mount Waverley 31-23. All three matches were hard fought in the first half, yet the girls were able to work their way through the pressure and apply some strong offensive pressure to prevail in the end to advance through to Division. Congratulations to Ruby T,

Charlotte C, Aaliyah P, Jayde E, Grace F, Steph O, Amber S and Leilani M.

Best of luck at Division.

The Year 7 girls Basketball B Team also competed on the day and played exceptional, finishing the day undefeated. Congratulations to Indigo W,

Ginger S, Ava, Lily K, Reese B, Olivia M, Lexi A, Ella P, and thank you to their wondaful coach Niamh.

Boys/Mixed Basketball

What a day! Just wanted to say a huge congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Basketball A-Team for being so resilient and working brilliantly as a team together. The boys won against Glen Waverley by 1 and against Mount Waverley by 8. They lost 1 game to Highvale buy 3. All very close games! Vermont came equalled 1st with Glen Waverley and Highvale but came 2nd by percentage. All the 3 matches, the boys went out 100% with a press on defence from the start, working on their strong offensive that they have been working through in training. Thank you for Ben W. and Kurt E. from Year 11 for running training sessions and coaching the boys on the day. Great effort to everyone and let’s go get them next year!

Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Basketball B-Team who also competed on the same day. This team was very strong and finished the day undefeated, winning every game 20+. Thank you, Thomas L. and Max L., from Year 9 for also conducting training sessions and coaching the team on the day.

Girls Hockey

The Year 7 girls hockey Team had a great win against Highvale! 2-0! The girls spent the day in Hawthorn along with their coach Miss. Westmore. The girls worked as a team to score goals, the scores being Alisha and Zoe. The group of girls worked together beautifully as a team besides the fact that the team having little experience. The team had awesome umpires who taught the girls the rules along the way correcting them when in the wrong. The first half of the 50 minute game the girls had many shots of goal but just missing due to Highvale’s awesome goalie. The second half of the game is when the girls’ energy really kicked in scoring both of the goals. Not only did the Vermont girls team have incredibly strong attackers we also had an awesome defence only letting the ball down to Highvale’s end once throughout the whole game! The girls had an awesome day out and we are very excited to be off to regionals in October. We are all very thankful for all the teachers and umpires for helping us along the way helping us make it to regionals!

Boys/Mixed Hockey

A fantastic Friday was had by all on the second of September! The Year 7 Boys/Mixed Hockey represented the Vermont Values to the best of their ability and effort at against Highvale and Glen Waverley. The team effort and support among the players was sensational and a great starting point for many who had not yet played Hockey at this level before.

The team made it to the Final match of the day to move on to the next round but unfortunately lost in a penalty shoot-out. The team made it to the final match of the day over Glen Waverley through winning a penalty shoot-out, proving that one shot was the difference in game 2 and the Final. Not all victories are measured on the scoreboard and the efforts on the day really demonstrated this, I am so proud of the team and the coaches Mason S & Niklas H, who were outstanding and as excited as I was to be out there with the team.

Girls Table Tennis

A fun day out and an opportunity to mix with other schools in a low key environment. The players took full advantage of this and had a terrific day.

Boys/Mixed Table Tennis

Plenty of players and plenty of tables- even the coaches got a hit. However, Glen Waverley and Highvale had some pretty awesome players and advanced to the finals. All in all a great day to spend having a bit of fun.
