Term 3, 2022

Year 4 Term 3, 2022

Year 4 students and teachers are well underway studying their new Unit of Inquiry 'Who We Are'. We are inquiring into how we keep our body systems healthy. The students are looking forward to sharing their knowledge with parents and the school community at their Exhibition in Week 8 of this term.

Literacy

Reading and Viewing

During Daily 5 literacy sessions, we will be working on building our knowledge and skills by reading information and interpreting meaning while exploring their Unit of Inquiry about the human body.

Students will be improving their ability to use complex sentences and add detail in their writing. We will be continuing to practise reading using the CAFÉ strategies.

Directed Writing

Students will be developing their skills in both creative and informative text.

Grammar

Students will apply their knowledge of spelling and grammar rules to enhance their writing, applying connectives, noun and verb groups to extend their work. There will be continued emphasis on the use of all punctuation including quotation marks, full stops, commas and question marks.

Spelling

Students will continue the SMART Spelling approach to consolidate their word knowledge during the Daily 5 sessions

Numeracy

Number and Algebra

Students have been exploring their understanding of parts of a whole and expanding their knowledge of fractions. Continued emphasis on both multiplication and division facts.

Early Morning Maths

Early Morning Maths will continue to be held every Wednesday morning at 8.30am in the 4A/4B classroom. This is an enjoyable morning and a great opportunity for all students.

Unit of Inquiry

WHO WE ARE

The body is made up of different systems that need to be maintained in order to stay healthy.

Lines of Inquiry:

  • The body systems and their components
  • The way they work together
  • The way we keep ourselves healthy

This year, the Year 4 Exhibition will be built around their Unit of Inquiry 'Who We Are'.

Groups of students will be required to investigate a “big question” that relates to a body system or organ and research how that system can be maintained in order to keep healthy.

Students will present their learnings to peers and the wider school community.
