Last term, the Year Nine cohort came together for a year level assembly to conclude the
first semester of 2021. Many students received awards in recognition of their achievements and work throughout the semester. The assembly was opened by Shakira Newitt with ‘Acknowledgement to Country’ which she then led to introducing the Year Nine level captains: Melisa Veljanoska and Adam Nevrous. Awards were split into five categories: Excellent School/ Community Citizenship, Excellent Role Model to Peers, Commendable Leadership Qualities, High Work Ethic, and Academic Excellence. It was great to see the audience of students and teachers applaud in a cheerful and respectful manner, as students were being recognised for their positive attitude and hard work with their learning throughout the semester. Students received a formal RHS certificate.
To conclude the assembly, Miss Rossini’s drama class gave an amazing performance about current issues that the year nine students as teenagers might relate to. These included cyber bullying, conflict resolution, and relationships. Despite a few hiccups prior to the performance, “The Show Went On.” The performers were dynamic, captivating and certainly made us think deeply about the relatable topics. We all enjoyed this event as it made us proud of our peers, and it also inspired us, to work hard, and gain one of these impressive awards.
Middle School is a time of making big decisions. With remote learning causing interruptions here - and – there, it is always a new experience whether stressful or stress-free. We have had experiences of all sorts, from internet buffering when it is in our convenience, to malfunctions of programmes when it is not. We fix these problems by talking to each other, to lift our spirits in such problematic moments. Having knowledge of subject selections for our next year is something important. What is comforting is the fact that the staff will help us when we have to make important decisions for our future. We certainly are looking forward to our course counselling sessions.
We hope this newsletter finds everyone safe and happy. Our priority as always in lockdown is to do all we can to reach out to our families and ensure the happiness and wellbeing or our children.
Can we encourage all students to connect with their friends but also with teachers and where possible ensure we log onto online classes.
Hopefully next week we can return to school and school life returns to normal as quickly as possible.
Just a recap on Term 2…….
Middle School Assemblies – We ended Term 2 in a wonderful way with our year level assemblies.
Ms Popovska and her Year 9 student leadership team did a brilliant job in rolling out for the first time our Middle School awards and achievements with certificates printed and handed out. The assembly also included our Year 9 drama class performance led by Ms Rossini.
Our Year 9’s began their careers pathways program with their involvement in the Morrisby Profiling and Careers day. This gave our students an insight into what options they might be interested in in the later years.
Our Year 10 assembly was equally successful and included our Careers Future Focus Day Mr Gayfer presented awards for attendance and academic performance and then the Careers team led our students through their Future Focus program.
Course Counselling Initial Meet – Due to lockdown our students are yet to meet with their counsellor to begin discussions on course / subject selection for 2022. We are awaiting an announcement next week on when a return to school may occur. Please be assured we have a number of contingency plans in place to ensure our students go through a thorough and productive process. Our final parent / counsellor meeting is still scheduled for August 5th again this date stands unless we have an extension of lockdown.
Should this occur we will conduct initial meets online via webex.
Stay tuned for a clear update next week.
As always our priority is the health and happiness of our students please ensure we stay connected and reach out if you need. All our contact details are below:
