International Students

Orientation Day for our New International Students

At the beginning of the term, we welcomed seven new International Students who come from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. The International Student Program held an Orientation Day where our College Principal, Mr Morris and Assistant Principal, Ms McGee, welcomed them. The students were very confident, positive, excited and have an excellent command of the English language. Our International Student leaders and buddies have already paired up with these students to support them and help them adjust to DSC life smoothly.

My name is Winnie, I am a new student at Doncaster Secondary College. The 28th January of 2021 was my first day and I was a little nervous because I had so many questions about the school. Ms Huang and Ms Lee helped me a lot and answered me very clearly when I did not understand something about the school rules and classes. They brought me around the school to make sure we knew where we needed to go for each class. I am very thankful to Ms Huang and Ms Lee. The other International Students have been very helpful and friendly. On the first day I came to school I felt everything was very convenient and comfortable to me and I truly enjoyed every moment.

International Student Program Homework Club

Doncaster Secondary College is always a place for multicultural students from anywhere around the world to pursue their study in a professional standard, and we are really keen to provide the best experience ever for all the students to absorb Australian Education System to achieve their best endeavour in the future.

We were so pleased to welcome our seven new International Students this term from such a diversity of backgrounds. To support our newcomers, we have provided an International Student Program starting from the second week of their college life with the purpose to assist them in their new learning environment.

For the initial week of the program, ISP team has provided tremendous assistance to ensure a complete set up of their devices and make sure they are able to access Microsoft Teams and the school email, given these are important platforms for communication. Icebreaker activities were also included during this week so that the students had the opportunity to introduce themselves and get to know each other. The main aim of this activity was to build their confidence in making friends and making them feel that they are a part of this community.

The following week of the Home Club is to teach them about regulations, rules and expectations. The ISP team have given a clear explanation of the compliance with their student visa conditions, explained college rules, expectations and procedures during class. Moreover, our team has also advised them of the appropriate action to take if they cannot attend a class.

Mobile phone rules were clarified as this device is not allowed at any time before school, recess time, lunchtime, in-class and after school based on the advice from the Department of Education and Training.

Apart from a serious session of rules and regulations, the ISP team has promoted all the school activities, events, and clubs to our new students to encourage their participation. We are confident that our new students will receive comprehensive knowledge to adjust their learning practices and will achieve not only the best results in their academic performance but also their attitude and behaviour.
