Year 7 Social BBQ Evening

On Tuesday, 9 February we held our annual Year 7 Social Barbeque.

It was an informal event where parents and carers had a chance to see the new W-block and tour their child’s classroom, as well as meeting some of their child’s teachers and sharing a sausage or a veggie burger with other students, parents and carers.

The evening ran a little differently to previous social nights due to covid restrictions. Instead of a formal presentation in the Performance Centre, attendees were sent a video outlining frequently asked questions before the night. This meant that the evening itself was just a casual bite to eat outside and a chat. It was so wonderful to see so many families attend and to be able to meet so many members of our community. It was also great to see our music department out in force, serenading the crowd with different songs and medleys.

A big shout out to our incredible Year 9 Peer Leaders who helped set up, cook and distribute the barbeque. What a fantastic contribution to the College Community, thanks legends! Huge thanks also to our maintenance team for setting up, out food tech support for ensuring OHS and food supplies and to the ever bubbly and brilliant Keshia in the W-block office for helping everything run smoothly in the College.

Settling into 2021

It has been fantastic to see how well all our new Year 7s have connected with your peers, teachers and the wider school community already. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know many of you over the past weeks.

I would also like to mention our Year 8 and Year 9 students. It’s wonderful to see all of your smiling faces around the College.

I am proud to say that all of our students have been displaying all of our college values – respect, responsibility, teamwork and resilience – in everything they do, and want you to know it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Keep up the fantastic work.

YEAR 7 - A TIME TO CONNECT

In Year 7 the curriculum that students undertake is core (common to all) and provides students with a ‘taste’ of all that the college has to offer. We actively support the students through the change from the primary to the secondary environment and associated structures. All students are encouraged and provided an opportunity to make connections with their peers, teachers and the wider college community.

YEAR 8 - A TIME TO BUILD

In Year 8 we again run a core curriculum. This is designed to support the foundations from Year 7 and to build on their existing levels of knowledge and skills. In this manner, all students are provided with a deeper level of understanding of the key elements of the core program. Students are also provided a range of opportunities to build on the connections they have already developed with their peers, teachers and the wider college community.

YEAR 9 - A TIME TO EXPLORE

In Year 9 there is a core curriculum, however, this is complemented by a wide choice of specialist subjects. Students are empowered to explore opportunities at this time that will develop their different individual needs and interests. This will also support specific learning goals and career pathways.
