The Mars Landing

The Mars Rover Landing

On the morning of 19 Feb 2021 at 7.45 am some of HT's teachers and students came together in SM9 to watch the Mars Lunar Landing in real time.

The Mars Rover, called Perseverance, and its rotor craft (robotic arm), called Ingenuity, are both named after qualities we encourage in our students. Perseverance and Ingenuity are a perfect fit for what was needed to overcome the challenges required to complete the mission.

It was a special moment for aerospace engineer Diana Trujillo when Perseverance touched down last month. Ms Trujillo is a member of the team that created the robotic arm which will gather rock samples.

Ms. Trujillo came to the US as a teenager with $300 to her name. She worked as a housekeeper and studied hard, making it to NASA in 2007. She really is a tenacious pioneer.

She says: "... everyone has to see this, [so] that they can turn around to the younger generation and say, ‘She can do it, you can do it.’”
