A Snapshot of Learning in 3/4GR

In 3/4GR we have been reading biographies about different people who have contributed to Australian society such as Banjo Paterson, Caroline Chisholm, Daisy Bates and Major General Lachlan Macquarie. Here are some of the things we have learned about them:

Matthew: He was the fifth governor of NSW. He sent the other soldiers who were part of the rebellion back to England and he chose his own soldiers to help him in NSW.

Archer: Banjo Paterson is a good poet and he wrote ‘The Man From Snowy River’ which was made into a movie.

In Writing we have been studying the language features of a biography and we have chosen people to research and write about. We discussed the qualities of some people who we admire before choosing a person. Here are some of the reasons why we chose each person:

Paige: I chose Caroline Chisholm because she is kind and helped the poor.

Roman: I chose Shaquille O'Neal because he is an inspirational basketball player.

Siena: I chose Banjo Paterson because he is a good author and he wrote Waltzing Matilda.

Stevie: I chose Paul Jennings because he is a good author and I like his books.

Giacomo: I chose George Lucas because he made Star Wars.

Jessica: I chose Queen Elizabeth II and I learned that she was born into the royal family and is the only person in the UK that drives without a license.

Stella: I chose Banjo Paterson because we learned a bit about him in class and I wanted to know more about him.

This week we have been lucky to spend some time in the Art Room with Mrs Hunt. We have been learning about hues, tints, shading and blending. We created jellyfish artwork using chalk pastels.
