Thursday 18th of February was an exciting time for everyone here on Earth. The amazing news was that NASA landed its latest rover called the Perseverance on Mars;  a completely different planet!

Many of our students watched the landing over breakfast.

Some of the staff at our school met early on the morning of Friday 19th to watch the Perseverance land 'in real time', via a NASA watch party. Of course, it was still Thursday the 18th of February in America.

There was lots of excited discussion in our Year 2 classes that morning.  Inspired by this global event, NASA's achievement became the seed for ideas in our Writers’ Notebook.

We also received Virtual Passports from NASA, and a virtual passport stamp, confirming our participation in the event.

Here are some examples of our student work.

Today is the best day for NASA. Perseverance has landed on Mars. Hooray.  It will find out if there is life so soon we will be able to send astronauts. Do you know how Mars was made? The BIG BANG!

Today is a good day for the people who like space. Perseverance has landed on Mars. It will find out if there is water and if we can come to find new things so we can learn more about Mars.
