Message from Acting Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Acting Principal

Open Classroom Event

Thank you to those families that joined us last week for our Open Classroom Event. Although this ran differently from previous years, it was lovely to see families back in the school and viewing their children’s learning spaces. I know the teachers enjoyed the opportunity to touch base, meet parents and soak up the sunshine!

If you didn’t get a chance to join us and would like to meet your child’s teacher, please feel free to email them to make a mutually convenient time.

In week 10 of Term 1, we will have our 3 Way Conferences. These are scheduled for Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st March. This will be an opportunity for you to sit down with your child and their teacher to discuss their learning for the term. More information regarding 3 Way Conferences and how to book them will be shared later in the term.

First Assembly

Our first senior assembly was held last Friday 26th February. Our new School Leaders took on the responsibility of running assemblies with confidence. During the assembly, we presented our school leaders and house captains with certificates and badges and congratulated our swimming team for their efforts at the District Swimming Sports.

This week we will have our first junior assembly. We look forward to welcoming our Prep, Year One, and Year Two families on-site for this event. Please ensure you sign in via the QR  codes on the gates or via the Compass Kiosk in the front office.

Activities Outside of School

Term 1 has proven to be a busy term for some of our student cohorts, we have seen Year 4 students attend Camp at Anglesea, and this week our Year 6 students are enjoying their week away in Canberra.

It’s lovely to see students participate in these events outside of school after such a disruptive year last year and we look forward to participation in many more Camps and Excursions in the future.

School Council Information

The ballot is currently open for our 2021 School Council Election. Voting will remain open until 4.00 pm on Tuesday 9th March with the Declaration of poll scheduled for Wednesday 10th March.

Further information on the School Council Election can be found on Compass.

The first School Council meeting for the new council will be held on Thursday 18th March. This will also be the last time our outgoing 2020 school council members will attend. I would like to thank all outgoing members of our 2020 school council for their invaluable contributions over their term of office.

Revised Face Mask Recommendations (as published on Compass)

The Victorian Government has announced an easing of restrictions. As directed by the Victorian Chief Health Officer, from 11.59 pm Friday 26 February, face masks are no longer mandatory in all indoor spaces in the broader community. Masks are still required in limited indoor settings, such as public transport, commercial passenger vehicles, and large retail settings.

At school, this means that face masks are no longer mandatory in all indoor spaces for school staff.

Requirements for the use of masks are outlined below. Visitors and parents must also observe this guidance.

  • Face masks are recommended, but not mandatory, for use by staff, students, and visitors when physical distancing of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained.
  • People aged 12 years and over must always carry a face mask – unless they have a lawful exemption.
  • People aged 12 years and over must wear a face mask when on public transport, school buses, and when in taxis or rideshare vehicles – unless they have a lawful exemption.
  • There are a number of lawful excuses for not wearing a face mask, including for staff and students who are unable to wear a face mask due to the nature of their disability. This includes students or staff who have a medical condition, such as a breathing problem, a serious skin condition on the face, or a mental health condition.

Thank you for your understanding and support with this matter.
