Nexus Launch

The start of Term 3 marks the start of Nexus - the name for our new partnership between ICT support and Library services.

At the beginning of 2020, the TSC (Technology Support Centre) relocated to the Senior School Library after many months of planning in 2019 to integrate not just physically, but come together as a combined team in the delivery of services.

NEXUS is:   
1.    a connection or series of connections linking two or more things   
2.   a central or focal point

The goal of Nexus is to support the All Saints' community to make a positive difference in the world. We will do that by providing spaces, services and enabling student agency.

 

Nexus-S is located in the Senior School, Nexus-J in the Junior School.

 

On Monday, 20 July staff engaged in a series of mini-workshops that highlighted the services being offered by Nexus and some of the new additions in the digital space.

Resources + Answers

Nexus resources, both physical and digital, can be accessed from our catalogue system Oliver.  ASC Answers - an online help page where you can find answers and ask questions. (see more below)

 

Research options

Enquiry is at the heart of Nexus. This session covered the rich resources available to the ASC community through

  • Databases - better than a Google search!
  • Research guides - a great way to engage Nexus services to create guides
  • Referencing and Research guide - the complete guide to referencing, creative commons, academic honesty, copyright, searching and MORE!

ASCTV 

Our exciting new green screen space for creating movies, podcasts, instructional videos and more.

 

Junior Staff also engaged in a wide variety of workshops on research, iPads, Picture books, Clickview, Orbit (the Junior version of Oliver) and more.

ASC Answers

One of the new services launched this week as part of Nexus is ASC Answers. This is an online database of FAQs that is easy to search. Next time you have a question - about anything - head to https://answers.allsaints.wa.edu.au

There is a parent section here - if your question has not been answered you can post your questions which will be answered by our student Tech Coaches.

 

Well done to Myles Keeffe and Ashley Lance (Year 11) who led the student team in the design and adding of FAQs to the site.

 

New ePortfolios

The Year 7 students this week were connected with their ePortfolios - their own website they manage which will become a powerful tool for showcasing and sharing their learning.
