YEAR 11 OUTDOOR EDUCATION NAVIGATION EXPEDITION

On Tuesday, 23 June the Year 11 Outdoor Education class set off on a challenging and rewarding overnight navigation expedition into the bush roughly an hour and a half south-east of Perth. The challenge for the 18 students was to make their way along the famous Bibbulmun Track to the Mt Cooke Campsite.

Students worked extremely hard throughout the term to plan and prepare for this expedition. They practised their leadership, communication and mapping skills to lead the entire group through different sections of the expedition. The students successfully navigated their way through some very dense terrain to various areas using their maps, compass, bearings, pacing and the natural features of the beautiful landscape.

On Day 1 the group enjoyed the breathtaking views from Mt Cooke. Using marker trees, access roads and the Bibbulmun Track as guides, all students rotated through the various roles to ensure they improved their knowledge. The students organised their own menu for the camp and cooked their own meals on a Trangia stove. They also enjoyed a night navigation challenge.

There were some outstanding performances and highlights over the two days, and all students are congratulated on their efforts. The entire group did extremely well in slightly wet conditions, demonstrating leadership, navigation, fitness and resilience in the outdoors. A special thank you to Mr Damien Stevens (Year 11/12 Coordinator), Miss Britt Gray (Director of Sport and Physical Education) and Mr Jason Zaurs (Head of Outdoor Learning) for giving up their time and sharing their expertise on this expedition.

ACC CRICKET ALL STARS TEAM

Congratulations to Year 12 student Lloyd Allen on his selection in the 2020 Associated Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) All Stars Cricket Team. YEAR 7 AFL CARNIVAL

The end of Term 2 saw the easing of COVID-19 restrictions which allowed All Saints’ to compete in the Boys and Girls ACC Year 7 AFL Carnival, held at Ferndale Park on Tuesday, 23 June. Both teams showed a lot of improvement throughout the day and while neither team were able to secure a win, they represented the College well and demonstrated fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship.

THE RUNNING CLUB

The Running Club recommences tomorrow (Friday, 24 July) and will focus on shorter distance running to align with the Athletics season and to prepare our running for the upcoming All Saints' College Interhouse Athletics and 1500m carnivals and the ACC Interschool Carnival which will be held later in the term. Training days are now Tuesday and Friday mornings and we will continue to provide breakfast for our runners after training. We encourage our regular runners to continue attending and welcome all new students to join. Whether your goal is to improve your running, keep physically active or even socialise with friends, The Running Club is for you!

ATHLETICS TRAINING TERM 3

Athletics Training commences this afternoon 3.30pm–4.30pm, and will take place each Thursday through to Week 9. Long- and short-distance running training in conjunction with the Running Club begins tomorrow (Friday, 24 July) and will take place each Wednesday and Friday until Week 9, 7.00am–8.00am.

Breakfast will be provided after the morning sessions. We are in ‘B’ Division for Interschool Athletics, and to achieve a positive result in 2020 we need as many students at training as possible. Training is valuable for students in preparation for the Interhouse Athletics Carnival, and it is also a great way to have fun with your friends.

If any family or friends of College students are interested in helping us by cooking some toast and helping our students refuel after morning training sessions, please contact Director of Sport and Health and Physical Education Miss Britt Gray on 9313 9333 or britt.gray@allsaints.wa.edu.au
