Let's Laugh It Off

Year 9 is a time of significant personal and cognitive growth for young people as they transition from adolescence to emerging adulthood.

In Year 9 at Girton, we ask students to begin to look ahead and imagine themselves beyond school. For this reason, we have developed a specific Year 9 programme designed to develop a greater awareness of learning beyond the classroom. We provide more opportunities for students to engage in interesting, authentic and inspirational learning and encourage more reflection, teamwork and increased awareness of diversity within our community.

This experiential style of learning is enjoyable and effective for students who are testing their understanding of the world and their place in it.

Year 9 students have recently participated in sessions titled “Let’s Laugh it Off” based on the premise that sometimes, laughter is the best medicine. Students were asked to create a short and entertaining video with tips on coping with isolation and wellbeing within the current COVID-19 context. Students were assessed on conveying accurate and relevant information, depth of research, level of engagement, creativity, technical skills and standard of presentation.

The compilation of Rap songs was a popular format, along with a talk show titled “On The Couch With Co and Vid”. “Let’s Get Physical” workout routines also featured prominently.

We look forward to hearing who wins the “audience choice” and “teachers choice” awards.
