GSSC - eSmart

Greater Shepparton Secondary College is proud to announce that we are beginning our journey to become an eSmart school.  At Greater Shepparton Secondary College, we are dedicated to supporting our students and families. We need to ensure we are providing safe and supportive learning environments, free from bullying and harassment.

To complement the supports that we have in place to ensure that our students feel safe in the school environment, eSmart enables schools to empower students, parents and teachers in understanding how to be safe online. eSmart, an initiative of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, helps schools to best manage cyber risks, bullying and cyber bullying issues and incidents so that students will feel safer and supported at school.

This is a framework that sits across the entire school – teachers, students, parents and the school community – and will be embedded into the school through our curriculum implementation, our leadership development and practice, our technology systems as well as in our wellbeing program. In this period when students are spending so much of their time online, it is important for parents to know where to go to seek advice on their children’s online environment and applications (apps) or programs that they are using. We highly recommend the following pages to find further information on your children’s online lives:

https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents

This page offers advice and free parent webinars on a range of online issues, as well as how to speak with your child about being safe online. This covers children as young toddlers through to 17-year old’s.

https://www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide

This page gives information on the most commonly used applications (apps), games and social media platforms of young people, the age limits for each of these sites, what personal information is collected and how you can protect your child or report issues.

If you have any questions about the eSmart program or would like to get involved, please contact Amy Gallacher at the Wanganui Campus.
