Teaching & Learning

Staff and students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College have had a smooth and productive start to the return of remote and flexible learning. It is pleasing to see our students reengage so positively with our communication platforms of Compass and Teams.

We remind students that for remote and flexible learning they are required to log into Teams in their Learning Mentor Group once per day, before 10am. The Learning Mentor will mark attendance each day on Compass by 11:00am using the data from the students Teams log-in.

We remind our Year 7 students involved in the Lighthouse Reading Mentor Program that the program is running throughout remote learning, so please remember to be online at your regular reading time. Access continues to be via Microsoft Teams ‘Lighthouse Reading Mentors’.  If you are unsure, please chat to your teacher via Microsoft Teams chat.

This week we provide an update on the excellent teaching and learning activities that have been taking place at the Mooroopna Campus.

We thank the library staff on the Mooroopna Campus who have quickly changed their current writing competition to an online platform.  The Poetry, Rap and Rhyme - Remote Learning Competition. All students who like to rap, write poems or rhyme, can enter this competition and potentially win a prize! There is no word limit and the subject is your choice. Enter your typed raps, poems or rhymes via email to Mrs Fidock at

rachel.fidock@education.vic.gov.au

The competition will end Friday 28th August and the winner will be announced the following week. The winning entry will be chosen by English staff and receive a canteen voucher (to use next term!) and a Collins' book store voucher.

All students at the Mooroopna Campus were provided with an AVID folder at the beginning of this term.  It has been fantastic to see students attend their online classes with all of the equipment they require ready to learn. Student’s have reported that it is assisting them to prepare for classes and is helping them to feel more organised.

The AVID Team is regularly discussing the use of folders with students and seeking feedback on what the students like about these and improvements they would like for the future.  Students are asked what they like about the folder and their responses include:

  • “You don’t have to worry about bringing the correct book.”
  • “I don’t have to look for my books because they are all there.”
  • “At the start I didn’t think they were a good idea – but I feel more organised now.”

We encourage our students to continue engaging with the Remote Learning Tasks for each of their classes, and to positively participate in their live video lessons. Please refer to our GSSC Student Guide to Live Video Lessons below:
