Primary Years Program at GGLPS

GGLPS teaches the Australian curriculum using the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate as a framework to impart this. There are many different aspects to the Teaching and Learning program of the school and these are some of the rich learning experiences in which the students are involved.

International Baccalaureate

Each International Baccalaureate (IB) school undertakes a process to evaluate their learning program every 5 years. The evaluation process has been designed to help schools to continue improving in meeting the needs of students and their families.

The IB has a set of standards and practices which reflect the IB mission statement that says:

‘The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the organisation works with schools, governments and international organisations to develops challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.’

Over the last twelve months, the staff are working towards:

  1. Engaging with the standards and practices.
  2. Gathering evidence that shows how we address the elements of the Primary Years Programme (PYP).
  3. Completing a self-study which asks us to look at each standard and practice to decide whether we would judge our level of implementation.
  4. From the results of the self-study, we will develop an action plan showing future opportunities growth which we will plan to undertake and how we will go about this.

In term 4 of this year, an evaluation team from the IB will spend several days viewing our evidence, self-study and action plan. Under normal circumstances, the team would visit us but with current restrictions, we are waiting to see whether this will be a virtual visit or a blended visit with one person being present at school and one person attending via Zoom.

We wish to include parents in our gathering of evidence and for this to happen, we will be holding a parent forum which you are invited to attend on Thursday, August 6th at 9 am. This forum will address some of the areas that we are asked to address in our self-study and will be held in the staffroom. If you are able to attend, could you please email me (Zadow.jayne@goldengrove.sa.edu.au)  so I know how many people will be attending. If you are unable to attend on that day but would like to have input, please also email me so I can make this happen.
