Being thankful

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love    and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
It was wonderful to be able to gather together for chapel on Monday morning and begin the term acknowledging that God is the originator of all good things. We talked about giving thanks to God for all the things he does and all our needs he attends to.

Everyone likes to be thanked for something. When someone goes out of their way to express gratitude it makes us feel appreciated. Conversely, when we consistently do things for others and we don’t receive a thank you, or even some recognition of our effort, we feel like we’re being taken for granted. The smallest ‘thank you’ can be the biggest thing in our day or week. The bible tells us that we should look for the good in each other and appreciate what they give to us in our relationships.

So too with God. He encourages us to be thankful for all that we have. Not because God wants us to grovel at his feet, rather because he wants us to develop the habit of appreciating the gifts we receive every day. If we can thank God for the beautiful day and the abundance that we have, we naturally thank him for the people in our lives and the blessings they are. That spirit of appreciation makes us happier, more content people, who value those around us. May we appreciate the blessings we receive each day.
