Loyola and Loreto House Day
Loyola began the day with a spectacular display of leadership as Year 7 and 11 leaders read beautifully at mass in the College Chapel. Loyola House then took the idea the feast of St Ignatius quite literally as they enjoyed some pizza with their peers. This was a well-earned treat after reflecting on some of the achievements within the House this year and practicing a new chant for the upcoming Interhouse Athletics Carnival. A good time was had by all.
For obvious reasons Loreto day had been postponed but Loyola kindly let us join them on their special day. It was great to see students and parents starting the day off with a beautiful mass. We later had a long-awaited assembly where we celebrated many achievements this year. Aneka Johnston was presented with the 2020 Loreto House service award. We are truly blessed to be able to gather as a community again.

HASS - Year 12 Geography Urban Fieldwork
On Wednesday 29 July Year 12 Geography students participated in a day of fieldwork in Perth city and the surrounding suburbs.
As part of Unit Four: Planning Sustainable Places, they investigated some of the challenges facing Perth Metropolitan Area and how these challenges are being addressed.
It was great to see places that are discussed theoretically in the classroom to improve students understanding of the topic.

John XXII Day in COVID-19 times
For most students, John XXIII Day is a calendar highlight: lots of fun activities, great food, an outstanding talent show, epic sports events and relaxed interactions among staff and students. Students rightly see the day as ‘our day’.
In addition, students are generous in their support of the day’s fundraising which goes to our partners at Jesuit Mission and Mary Ward International Australia. Students continue to be ‘people for others’ as they spend time in Homeroom and outside of school preparing for the day’s fundraising activities. The College also recognises the support of parents in some of these fundraising initiatives.
It goes without saying that this year our support is needed more than ever by our partners, Jesuit Mission and Mary Ward International. These agencies continue to work alongside some of the poorest and most marginalised persons on the planet: in India, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Zambia, South Sudan, The Philippines, Nepal, Myanmar and Malawi. Directly or indirectly, these communities have been impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic, and the College is particularly mindful of our role in supporting these communities, through our awareness, our prayer and our fundraising. Support from families and the wider John XXIII College community is much appreciated.
We look forward to John XXIII Day 2020 as ‘our day’ as well as a day when we particularly show that we are ‘people for others’.

Lifelink
A big thank you to all students and families in the College who supported the LifeLink appeal on ‘Comfy Day’ at the end of Term 2. Students chose to make a gold coin contribution in exchange for wearing clothes that were ‘cozy’ and ‘comfortable’. The total collected was $2126.55, which will distributed to various archdiocesan agencies who deliver professional services and caring support to people in need throughout Western Australia. Thank you to our College community for supporting this annual appeal.
