Around The Primary

Dear Parents

You should be very proud of how your children have started the term – they have dived straight into their class work and other aspects of school life. The teachers are so pleased that they have had such a smooth start in the delivery of their teaching and learning program for Term 3.

Well done to our fabulous Primary Singers who delighted the audience with their wonderful performance at today’s Assembly. The songs were performed with great skill and enthusiasm by all choir members. Mrs Haydon is to be highly commended on the time, dedication and expertise she shares so generously with our students – we are so lucky!

To those of you who came along to cheer on your children at today’s Interhouse Cross Country Carnival, thank you! Our main focus at events like these are for students to get involved and have a go, to enjoy themselves and to give their best effort. We also look for and celebrate team spirit and good leadership, where older students encourage and care for the younger students. Special thanks to Mr Williams for coordinating this great carnival!

Congratulations to the following Year 6 students who will be our House Captains for Semester 2.

Next Friday 7 August we will be celebrating John XXlll Day. It is one of the special occasions when the entire student body are involved in community celebrations.

The day will begin with a College Mass at 9am in the St Louis Sports Centre.  The celebrations will then continue with lots of fun activities, including a variety of sport games organised by our Year 6 Leaders.

In previous years the students have brought along some spending money. This year we do not want the students to handle money, so we request all students bring along a $2.00 donation to participate in the various activities. All donations will be given directly to Jesuit Missions and Mary Ward International.

All students are required to wear their sports uniform and House shirt for the day.

Let’s pray for fine weather on the day and that a magnificent celebratory spirit will be present on John XXIII Day.

Kind regards,

Antoinette De Pinto

Head of Primary

Photo Day

A friendly reminder that Pre-Kindy and sports photos will take place on Monday 3 August. All Year 3 – 6 students are required to wear their sports uniform.

St Ignatius of Loyola is famous for founding the Jesuits that were known for their charitable works and educational help. He was also a missionary and a theologian. He wrote the Examen. St Ignatius of Loyola was born in 1491 in Spain to a wealthy and noble family. He became a Page for a relative and soon became a Knight but this ended quickly when he got hit by a cannonball in the leg. He started to make bad decisions and then started reading books about saints. Ignatius of Loyola studied Latin, Philosophy, Theology and more subjects and became a priest at 45 years old.

Snuggle Up With A Good Book!

This term we will continue to support students to engage in reading on a daily basis. When it is cold and wet outside, encourage your children to stay inside and snuggle up with a good book.

If you catch your child snuggling up with a good book on the couch, with their cuddly toys or pets or even in their PJ’s, capture it on camera and send the photo through to the their classroom teacher to be shared in Snuggle Up with a Good Book displays in the Library, Front Office or classrooms.

Eucharistic Celebration

The Year 4 students have now completed the Eucharistic program in Religion classes and last week the students participated in a Paraliturgy to celebrate their preparation for the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Miss De Pinto and Ms Allen attended this celebration and congratulated the students, presenting them with their certificates. A special thank you for Mrs Haydon for assisting with music.

Once your child has received their First Communion in your Parish, please email a copy of their certificate to nancy.petsos@cewa.edu.au

Reconciliation Retreat

Last Friday, the Year 3 classes participated in a fantastic Reconciliation Retreat run by 24.7 School Ministry.

We brainstormed what the world would be like if no one followed rules and then we brainstormed what it would be like if everyone followed the rules. We decided the world is a much better place when everyone follows the rules. We then learnt about why we need to follow God’s rules and why we should always forgive others.

We finished by decorating paper feet and placed them in front of a painting of Jesus. This symbolised that we should always follow Jesus in our everyday life and try to be like him.

Overall, we had a wonderful time learning about God and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Now we are all really excited to make this Sacrament in our Parishes and become closer to God.

Sports Update

Cross Country Carnival

What a fantastic day and way to end a long drought of sporting events!  It was wonderful to see all the Year 3 to 6 students trying their best and cheering on their classmates.  There were some extremely close races and it was great to see such a high level of determination and sportsmanship displayed by our students.

Results will be published next week.

Athletics Training

Athletics training continues every Tuesday and Thursday, 3:30 to 4:30, for Year 3 to 6 students.  It is a great opportunity to practice the different events in preparation for the Athletics Carnival in Week 8.  No sign up is required.

Time Trial Day – Tuesday 4 August

Year 3 to 6 students will be timed for 60m hurdles, 80/100m sprint and 200m races.  These times will be used to place students into heats for the Interhouse Athletics Carnival.  All students are to wear their sports uniform on this day.
