Pathways and Transition

The first two weeks of the term have been very busy, particularly for our Year 10 students. Dr Jane Genovese spoke to the group about ‘Creating Momentum’, providing practical strategies to set goals and motivate themselves. Just what they needed leading into their course counselling and subject selections sessions this week.  Daniel Bradshaw, from StreetX, also spoke to the year group to kick off their $20 Boss program that challenges students to solve problems and helps them better understand their relationship with money.

The National Career Information Service

With Term 3 underway, many students are thinking about subject selection for next year or considering options such as higher education, apprenticeships and vocational education and training (VET). Below are some of many myfuture resources that can help them explore options and pathways.

There's also a range of VET resources on the Australian Government's My Skills website that can be used in the classroom or shared with students electronically.

Open days may look a little different this year due to COVID-19. Many universities, TAFEs and colleges will hold virtual open days, where students can go online to find out about courses and programs, explore campus facilities through virtual tours and chat live with current students about their experience.

Whether virtual or on-campus, open days can help students make informed decisions about their future study options. Encourage your students to research specific details and dates for the institutions that interest them and consider taking part. These resources on myfuture can help them prepare:

The courses cover information/communication technology skills, academic research and writing, mathematical concepts and techniques, and a wide range of interpersonal communication skills.

Students will also be introduced to life at ECU and have access to course and career advice to help them make informed decisions about selecting a degree.

If you would like to arrange Year 12 presentation, or one-to-one talks with students please don’t hesitate to reply to this email. Our Team are happy to work with you and your students to ensure students get the right information they need.

UniPrep Accelerate

This is our brand new program for school leavers with a near-miss ATAR.

UniPrep Accelerate is an intensive and challenging version of ECU’s successful university preparation program, UniPrep.

This 4-week university preparation course will run in January on our Joondalup Campus.

On successful completion, students will be able to start uni in Semester 1 with everyone else.

If students expect an ATAR between 55 -69, they can apply now via our Online Admissions system.

UniPrep Summer

Our UniPrep Summer program is now available for school leavers.

The program is for people who are likely to attain an ATAR of below 55 or won't attain an ATAR at all.

It's held at Joondalup and South West campuses from 30 November until 29 January, with a two-week break over the Christmas period.

On successful completion, students start uni in time for Semester 1. Students can apply for UniPrep Summer now via our Online Admissions system.

Special consideration will be given to 2020 Year 12 cohorts to allow you to apply for UniPrep Summer based on your first semester Year 12 results.
