2020 Production Update

Thank you to all in the cast, crew, band and staff for their hard work toward our 2020 production of Freaky Friday. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 restrictions we are no longer able to proceed with the show this year. Thank you for your patience during these unpredictable and ever-changing times. We look forward to working with our fabulous students on our 2021 production next year.

2020 Victorian State Schools Spectacular Update

This year's Spectacular arena event will be replaced with a made-for-TV show that is not contingent on large gatherings of people. Performers, including the Mass Choir, would need to be pre-recorded separately in adherence to health and physical distancing guidelines and restrictions, in school uniform. The performances will be combined in a new look show and televised.

After careful consideration and discussion, we at Glen Eira College have decided to withdraw from participating in the Mass Choir for this year’s Spectacular. We felt that, given the majority of students involved from our college are and have been off-site for an extended period of time that it would be difficult to coordinate and rehearse remotely.

We do still have one GEC student who will be participating in the revamped Spectacular this year – one of our Performing Arts Captains Yvette Lipovetsky is in the Performing Arts Unit choir.

I have been involved in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular for 4 years, being a part of the PAU Choir. This year my experience has been completely different because of the pandemic. Because of the restrictions we are no longer able to perform in Melbourne Arena with a live audience or even rehearse together. Rehearsals are still happening every Saturday, but on zoom where we learn new songs, rehearse the tracks we will record and socialise. Then, everyone has to record their individual voice parts at home and send in their videos. Once the production team receives everyone’s videos, they will put them together and create a televised concert during lockdown. Although it is very sad that we cannot perform or see our friends, this experience has been very unique and valuable in many different ways. I hope that next year things will change and return back to their normal state which will enable us to all perform on stage together again.
