Health News

If you or your child is sick, stay home. Ring the Coronavirus hotline 1800 675 398 open 24 hours, 7 days for advice and testing locations. Any student displaying symptoms of respiratory illness whilst at school will be sent home.

Hygiene

The school has purchased some automatic hand sanitiser stands and they will be installed at key points over the coming days. Every classroom has hand sanitiser supplied and high touch points are cleaned multiple times a day. The Department of Education has extended the additional cleaning model for schools and as a result we have retained our day cleaner until further notice.  This extension of routine progressive cleaning of high touch points, surface areas and shared spaces, reduces the risk of COVID-19 transmission.  Particular care is taken with regularly wiping down devices used by staff and students.  Our cleaners have immense pride in our school and regularly go above and beyond their official duties to ensure our school is well presented, clean and looking it’s very best.  We extend a huge thank you to both our regular and additional cleaner.

COVID-19 precautions

Hand hygiene and social distancing where possible continues to be a high priority in our daily organisation.  Just a reminder to parents that the playground is currently out of bounds unless directed specifically by staff and the drinking taps are unavailable for student use.  Onsite students must bring their personal drink bottles.  During the winter months, our grounds are generally more wet and muddy than usual, so if onsite please remember to dress appropriately with your winter wardrobe.

Face masks

From 23 Jul 2020, facemasks are compulsory for all Victorians that are in the lockdown zones. Children under 12 years old are not required to wear a mask and all children over the age of 12 that are currently at Primary School are not required to wear a mask whilst at school. All teachers and aides are not required to wear a mask whilst teaching but must wear a mask at all other times. These exceptions do not mean that these persons are not allowed to wear a mask if they choose to. Babies and toddlers should NOT wear a mask. See below for WHO Advice on how to wear a mask.

Temperature checks

Based on guidance from Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, in order to support community awareness of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and to help identify children displaying symptoms, all schools located in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will commence temperature screening of students while the stay at home restrictions are in place. Any child with a temperature of 37.5C or over will be sent home. Daily temperature checking has progressed smoothly this week with this process being as light hearted and stress free as possible.

First Aid

With many staff currently working from home and with safety in mind. A First Aid station has been setup in the Gallery, to cater to staff and students working onsite. There are First Aid trained staff onsite everyday.

Medications

If your child has asthma and is attending onsite during remote learning, please have an inhaler in their school bag,

It can be left there and used under supervision if needed. We are aiming to reduce movement around the school. If your child does need their medication that is already onsite, then they will have access to it.

All new medication will still require a Medication Authority Form to be filled in before staff can administer the medication. New medication can be handed to staff together with the Authority Form at the gate upon arrival at school. A compass notification was sent with PDF attached.
