GARDEN OPEN AFTERNOON
Thank you to our school community and all of the children involved in this year's garden program for helping to make the Open Afternoon such a great success last week. The children were very enthusiastic and a great help in setting up our stalls, being tour guides and selling plants and our preserved olives. It was a sunny afternoon and fun was had by all.
Thank you also to all our volunteers who assisted during the lead up and on the day itself.
THANK YOU FROM THE SAKG GARDEN PROGRAM
Once again, the year in the garden has flown by. I would like to extend a big thank you to all of our volunteers who have been helping in the garden classes. Your assistance is invaluable. We could not do this program without you all. Wishing you and your families a wonderful Christmas season and a very Happy New Year. Looking forward to seeing you all in the new Term 1 of 2017.

THANK YOU FROM THE SAKG KITCHEN PROGRAM
On behalf of the students and the teachers, I would like to extend a VERY BIG THANK YOU to ALL VOLUNTEERS who have helped in the kitchen this year. Your help has been invaluable in providing a safe and successful program. I feel we have all learnt from each other, and the students have developed some amazing skills under your watchful eye in their kitchen sessions.
This term we made foods from Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian and Jewish cuisines.
I would also like to extend a VERY BIG THANK YOU to Natalie Baumgurtel for all her efforts in organising and coordinating the volunteer roster for the past 2 years.
I am looking for someone to take on this role for 2017. Please contact me evans.euanna.e@edumail.vic.gov.au if you are interested in helping out in this way or Natalie natbaum@gmail.com if you would like some more information on the demands of the role.
I would also like to acknowledge Phillippa’s Bakery. They support the program by providing organic flour and their delicious breads FREE to all SAKG kitchen programs in Victoria. Very generous!
I would also like to thank the many people who have donated produce eg lemons, oranges etc and provided jars for our wonderful olives. Another BIG thankyou is extended to all the volunteers who helped with the end of term kitchen cleaning sessions.
I am extremely thankful to all people who helped in any way.
Wishing you and your families a happy and safe holiday and happy cooking!

2017 – TERM 1 VOLUNTEER REQUESTS
The goal of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) is to introduce the children to the pleasures of preparing, cooking and eating a variety of foods they have grown and harvested themselves.
The program has been running for over four years now and has proven to be very successful. The children are extremely positive, prepared to taste new foods, and their cooking skills are quite amazing!
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program relies on parent volunteers to assist small groups of children on a regular basis in their weekly kitchen and garden sessions to ensure they are safely supervised at all times.
Being involved in the cooking sessions will enable you to converse with your child at home about the menu, the skills required/learnt and the obvious enjoyment of the different classes.
Each kitchen session requires five kitchen helpers.
We are planning to start kitchen classes in week 2, beginning Tuesday 7th February 2017. The program will not commence unless we have enough volunteers to ensure the safety of the students.
