Preps Learning from Home
Term 3 Week 4
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week in reading preps continue to focus on identifying the different elements of a narrative and learning about how to ask questions to make meaningful connections by gathering information they need. We have been focusing on narratives by comparing and contrasting two different versions of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ by identifying the similarities and differences.
Last week, Prep students were provided access to Wushka, the school’s online levelled reading program, offering a wide variety of digital home readers. We hope all students have now accessed their account and are enjoying the wide range of fiction and non-fiction books to choose from. Enjoy reading preps!
In writing, students continue to log personal journal entries as part of recount writing; writing about a past experience. In narrative writing, students made their own character and created a setting for their story to use as a writing prompt. We have some magnificent and expressive story tellers. In handwriting we practised forming the letters from the ‘U’ family.
In numeracy, preps have been learning to use a number line to solve addition problems and learning about the Commutative Law. In Coding, students practised using a specific sequence of instructions/ directions (called an ‘algorithm’) to move a toy around a grid to get to a certain place and are having fun learning about time by understanding the duration of a minute.
Due to this week’s Curriculum Day 100 Days of School has now been moved to Wednesday the 12th of August. We know we can’t be physically together but we can be together in other ways so this year’s celebration for 100 days of school will be different in a special kind of way– so keep your eyes peeled … something wonderful is on the way!
The prep team would like to applaud our prep students who continue to work on using a growth mindset and putting personal best effort into their remote learning tasks. Everyday their resilient little bodies get up and carry on despite what is going on around us, even though their world has been turned upside down. Their minds must be racing. Staying home more than they’ve ever known in their life. So here’s to our little heroes today, tomorrow and forever. Your teachers are so very proud of you and want only the very best for you.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a beautiful week and please stay safe!
