Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Masterclass

Two or our trombone students, Lauren Trang (Year 11) and Jackie Fernando (Year 10) were the lucky recipients of a masterclass with the MSO's 2nd Trombone player Richard Shirley this week. As has become our norm, the class was delivered on Zoom and Ms Addis gave Richard a masterclass of her own in adjusting the microphone levels of which he was most appreciative. Both Lauren and Jackie performed two pieces each for Richard and were critiqued on their performance. The girls performed beautifully and it was lovely to hear them discuss higher concepts of musicality such as phrasing, tuning and sound quality with Richard. In these unusual times we are finding we have more access to these great musicians via streaming and both girls are to be congratulated for working hard to present a program that Richard could work with.
