I watched on with great pride when our Year 7 – 10 students attended the Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday at the Mount Beauty cenotaph. While only a short ceremony, it is important that our young citizens are reminded of the sacrifices that have been made in the past to ensure that our way of life and freedoms are not compromised. The rain held off long enough to prevent getting too wet and the vice captains laid a wreath and raised the flag. Our students were model citizens who respectfully participated in the service.
The last Year 12 exam for our students was on Monday and our Year 11s began their exams today. The Advantage program starts on Monday and teachers are busily planning what they will be presenting to their ‘new’ classes. The Year 10s will also sit an English and Maths exam, to practise what it is like to sit an exam as well as seeing what it is like to be assessed on a semester’s worth of work. While the exams are more for practise, the results will be reported on and give students and families an indication of what they have learnt this semester.
With the end of the year approaching quickly, it is worth reminding students and families that students are expected to attend until their last official day of classes. Our Year 11s officially finish on Friday 2nd December, after their camp finishes and Year 10s are expected to attend until Tuesday 6th December. An unusual year where staff finish on Tuesday 20th, the Year 10s official last day of school happens to be the first day in the activities program. If your child can’t attend for any reason, please make sure you let the school know either via a phone call or Compass entry.
