In Reading the year 3’s have been working on numerous different reading strategies such as synthesizing, making connections and summarising while exploring texts that link to their humanities unit about Australian and Indigenous history.
Through our Writing unit we have been writing narratives ensuring we follow the writing process to produce a quality piece of writing. These narratives will include developed characters, settings , a problem and solution. We have also ensured we are making our writing interesting by including sizzling starts, dialogue and lot’s of other features of a narrative to ensure our audience stays engaged.
In Maths we have just wrapped up our multiplication unit and are beginning to explore division. We are are also learning about different units of measurement within mass and capacity along with understanding what it means to collect data and form good questions to do so.
In science we are exploring the differences between living and non living things looking more closely at animals. In health we are learning about what it means to be safe and understanding what is classified as safe or unsafe behaviours.
We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

In Writing in Year 4 we are learning how to write narratives we have learnt how to write sizzling starts, tightening tension, dynamic dialogue and we are slowly moving into show don’t tell strategy. We are planning for our story with our story mountain template and writing it onto pieces of paper-soon we will all have detailed narratives.
In Humanities in Year 4 we are learning about the olden days and how other people used to live before some of the things invented today-like the bike! In the olden days the bike used to be double the size of a human and 1 wheel was giant and the other was tiny. We are creating a poster about indigenous and Torres Strait Islander symbols. We are very excited to learn heaps more on our excursion to the Museum soon!

In Maths in year 4 we are learning to do multiplication strategies such as area model and angles such as right angle, acute angle and obtuse angle and reflex angle and full rotation. We are slowly learning about division and we have also started learning to use a protractor to measure angles.

In year 4 Reading, we have been studying different texts each week and looking at different reading strategies and skills. We have looked at a few texts on ANZAC day and have been reading various books relating to the topic. We are looking at synthesising using our prior knowledge. We have also looked at finding inner emotions, feelings and different overall mood in the text. So far we have really been enjoying this topic!
On Wednesday 24th May we had the 3-6 Athletics Carnival and we had the most wonderful time! We all participated in at least one event, which made the day very fun and engaging for all students. There were lots of different events and races such as shotput, discuss, long jump, triple jump, high jump, sprints and many more. It was a special excursion for us considering the original date in term 1 had it postponed due to weather! So we were even more lucky with all the sunshine we had! Happily, Yellow house had taken victory! Year 4 had an amazing time and we all wish to have next years Athletics carnival to be just as good as this one!

In Reading and Writing, we have been focusing on biographies and the features of them. We found out lots of facts in each biography that we read. We also learnt that there are two types: autobiographies and biographies. Now we are creating a biography of a famous person of our choice.
In Maths, we have been focusing on Data. We surveyed lots of students and made our own graphs such as column graphs, pie charts, dot plots and line graphs. Our survey question was ‘How can we improve Year 5?’ We practiced interpreting the our data to find patterns.
In Science, we are learning about the Solar System and that there are two types of planets: Terrestrial and Gaseous planets. We have been learning about the order of the planets and the distance between them.
In Humanities, we are learning about immigration throughout Australian history. There are three types of immigration groups: refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. We are also exploring different events that impact Australia such as the first settlement and the gold rush.
In Health, we have been learning about positive coping strategies and the benefits of physical activity. There are two types of self-talk which are positive and negative self-talk. We also learnt that physical activity gives you a fit and healthy body and staying physical lowers the chances of mental and physical illnesses.

We’ve had lots of great sporting activities happening recently. We enjoyed two Interschool Sport days where we played hockey, tee-ball, soccer, AFL or netball, and an Athletics day!
In Humanities, we are learning about Australia’s recent history, and have learnt about the Eureka Stockade and the explorations of Burke and Wills.
In Reading, we have been reading a range of biographies and memoirs. This text type is great as you get to learn about the lives of many different people. We all tried to write a six-word memoir, yes, that’s right, you could only use exactly six words! Here are some examples:
You’re never the same person again.
Eat. School. Footy. Work. Sleep. Repeat.
In Writing, we have shared published books with our Prep buddies. They loved them.
We are now researching interesting people and will be writing biographies about them. Have you heard of Marie Curie, Ernest Shackleton, John Flynn, Messi, Malala or Harry Styles? Soon you will be able to read our biographies about them and their achievements.
In Maths, we have started a unit about Operations, not surgical operations – Maths operations! The four operations are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have been sharing strategies for solving problems efficiently. How would you solve 8+3? How would you solve 56+99? How would you solve 150-65? It has been great to learn about different ways to solve problems.
