Middle School

Years 8 and 9

With examinations taking place this week for our Year 9 students, Pastoral sessions placed great emphasis in the past few weeks on study habits, skills and organisation. Students were provided with the knowledge of what effective study habits, backed by research, looked like and were able to integrate this into their habits in the lead up to their final assessment week. The same occurred in Year 8, with many students afforded the opportunity to reflect on their study habits and develop a plan which was aimed at balancing their competing priorities with a healthy study schedule. With both year levels being focused on refining their habits surrounding study, the aim is ultimately to demonstrate to them the positive impact a process-driven approach to revision can have.

Looking ahead, with our Years 8 and 9 students in their final few weeks of school, now is an important time to reflect on the year that has passed. All of them have continued to take on new challenges, strive for excellence and serve the wider community. As such, they should be proud of their efforts, as their teachers and I are proud of what they have achieved. With assessment now over and the transition program taking place, our Middle School students will get a great sense of what lies ahead in their educational journey here at Oakleigh Grammar.

Term 4 has been an eventful term. Our Years 6 and 7 students have demonstrated resilience and perseverance to complete their assessments and study requirements. The growth seen since Term 1 has been commendable.

We welcomed Year 5 as part of their transition day. It was wonderful seeing our current Year 6 students develop a ‘Survival Guide to Year 6’, paying it forward and helping Year 5 with their transition.

Our Years 6 and 7 students were acknowledged for their outstanding work for the Service as action projects.

At the end of term 4 we will have fun bounding activities and excursions coming up – a day at Melbourne Museum and a day at the MCG and The Australian Sports Museum.

We wish that our Years 6 and 7 are being aspirational and empowered young people.
