Physical Education
Term Four is looking to be a fantastic one in Physical Education, with plenty to look forward to as well as some warmer weather and a chance to get outside more. Within PE, we are covering a variety of disciplines and skills including; invasion games, target games, athletics and batting/fielding games. Outside of the classroom there are still plenty of opportunities to improve physical skills. Lunchtime Sports will continue until the end of the year and Sport Innovation is on again, this term concentrating on Badminton. The year Sixes will compete in their final Round Robin of the year, focusing on cricket, softball, Teeball, rounders and tennis. Finally, we will be holding our Junior School Sports Carnival for Prep-Year Three students towards the end of term. Chilren will have the opportunity to compete in a number of modified athletic events through friendly competition.
Foundation/Prep
This term, students will explore the fundamental skills used in Basketball and Target Sports. Physical Education classes will focus on dribbling, passing and shooting the basketball, with teamwork and cooperation a key focus. These skills will be used to participate in minor games, allowing for transfer of learning in multiple contexts. Prep students will also learn to play Target Sports such as golf, ten-pin bowling and bocce. These tasks provide opportunities for students to refine and transition their fundamental movement skills into more advanced, sport-specific skills.
Year 1 & 2
This term, students will prepare for the Junior Sports Carnival to be held at the end of the term by exploring a range of athletic events. They will learn the movement patterns of athletic throws, jumps and running events through modified activities and equipment. Year One and Two students will also spend time utilising fundamental movement skills to participate in a range of invasion games. They will explore the importance of working together and using simple strategies to be successful as a team.
Year 3 and 4
This term, students will develop their sport-specific skills in Soccer and Teeball. They will refine their kicking technique, with a focus on accuracy and control, whilst also focusing on the use of tactics and strategies through trial and error. Students will look at common trends between various invasion games which relate to soccer, such as basketball, hockey and Australian rules football. The program will move into a unit on Teeball, with students provided opportunities to focus on two-handed strike, catching and throwing technique. These skills will be used in games of Teeball, to assist the acquisition of knowledge in relation to rules and game play.
Year 5 and 6
This term, students will refine their performance of the key skills involved in Cricket. They will utilise intrinsic and extrinsic feedback to improve performance, whilst also experimenting with various tactics and strategies to increase chances of success when fielding and batting. In the second half of the term, students will explore invasion games through the sport of Australian rules football. They will refine their punt kick and transfer their understanding and experience of other invasion games to develop tactics and strategies which create scoring opportunities.
