A Week of Wild Weather

As they say in the classics, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" and despite the challenges thrown up by the past couple of weeks of wild weather, it has been heartening to see the many ways in which our school community has come together to ensure the best outcomes for our students.

My thanks to our Year 3 families who rode the highs and lows of a much anticipated and then cancelled Year 3 Camp and to the staff and students who swallowed their disappointment and put in a great week's work at school.  The good news is that Camp Toolangi has been rescheduled for Nov 30th - December 2nd, by which time we are hoping for nothing but sunshine!

Wild winds and heavy (never-ending) rain has also played havoc with leaks and flooding in classrooms and offices in many parts of the school, causing some disruption to classes.  As always I have been impressed with the ability of both students and staff to be flexible and focussed when required to move locations or work around mechanical driers and impediments to access.

We have received excellent support from DET and their Makesafe teams in dealing with leaking roofs and flooded areas, in what has obviously been a trying time in schools across the state.  I can report that all affected areas have now been dried out and deemed safe for use, with damage from leaks rectified.

A Week for Sporting Triumph

A round of applause for sports teacher, Laura Yorke and her wonderful work with students in athletics this year.  Laura's efforts during PE classes and extra training before school and at lunchtimes have opened a world of possibility for a number of students, from Preps and Juniors finding fun and fitness in Cross Country, to many students showing marked improvement in their personal sporting best, culminating in two of our students this week making the State Finals in Track & Field.

See the 'What's Happening" page for details, but Jett B and Ethan T are now officially among the best of the best in Victoria in their chosen events, something which neither might have thought possible at the beginning of 2022.

Their achievement and Laura Yorke's support is testimony to what all children can aspire to with the inspiration and support of dedicated and caring teachers.  At CHPS, this applies not only to sport but to all areas of the core and specialist curriculum.

A COVID Reminder

We have been notified of a number of COVID-19 cases within the school community this week and you may have caught messaging in the news that new strains of Covid are on the rise generally in Victoria.

I ask all families to be vigilant and to keep their children home if they are displaying any symptoms, in an effort to keep our whole community safe.

We still have a large number of RAT kits available upon request at the Office and a supply of masks, both adult and child, should you feel you need them.

It has been thanks largely to our community's continued vigilance in this space that has allowed classes to run normally and ensured that students have been able to participate in Camps this year.  Please keep up the good work so that the rest of 2022 runs just as smoothly and our community can come together to celebrate the year at Carols on the Oval on December 6th and Year 6 Graduation on December 14th.
