Scholastic Book Club Issue 8
The catalogues for Issue 8 went home last week with students. This is the last Book Club for the year! The closing date for orders is 18th November. Orders can be done via LOOP at Scholastic Book Club website or by handing in at the College Office. There are some terrific ideas for Christmas presents. Orders can be labelled as a gift so that we keep them aside for you to collect rather than send them home via students.
End of the Year and Stocktake
The end of the 2022 school year is approaching quickly now. The Library is preparing for the end of year stocktake. During stocktake we match the books on the shelf with our computer records to make sure they match. This works best when all the books are returned from students. We ask you to please check in with your children and help them remember to return all their books.
During Week 9 (28th November to 2nd December), the Library will be closed for completion of the stocktake. We will be open again for the last week of the year for senior students to collect books for their VCE subjects.
Star Borrowers
Our star borrowers for 2022 are ...........
Alexander G in Grade 1/2 with 59 books borrowed for the year and Tehseen I in Year 7 with 57 books borrowed.
Congratulations to these students on an amazing achievement. Research shows that reading for pleasure is one of the best things students can do to improve their results in all subjects and also a great way to protect our mental health.

Lessons in the Library
This last week, students in Years 1 and 2 have been looking at our college theme 'Know, Love, Serve'. The shared reading was a book called Today you changed the world. Students wrote about actions they can take to change the world and acts of kindness at home, at school and towards themselves.
Foundation students listened to a story about a prince who was shy and discussed ways we can cope with being a bit scared or embarrassed.
Years 3 and 4 are reinforcing their knowledge about information books by looking at biographies of famous Australians such as Veena Sahajwalla, a scientist working on recycling plastics. The Goodbye Year, that our Years 5 and 6 students listened to this week, is about how a character dealt with the pandemic when she was in Grade 6 in 2020.
