We Raised Our Voice in Parliament 2022 - Twice!
Raise Our Voice Australia 2022 has partnered with over 70 federal politicians, who have agreed to use one of their 90 second speaking slots to read a speech written by a young person aged 21 or under from their electorate.
Speeches answered to the prompt "What do you want to see from Australia's new parliament?"
Congratulation to Liv Dinnen in Year 9 Barak. Liv had her persuasive arguments - about closing the gender pay gap and increasing women’s participation in the workforce, increasing the minimum wage in female dominated industries and paid parental leave - read out in parliament by Dr. Daniel Mulino!
Congratulations also to Phoebe Gowans Year 9 Barak, [another Academy student whose involvement in youth civics has been acknowledged], will have her speech read on Tuesday 22 November 2022 by, Green's Senator, Janet Rice.
'Janet was particularly drawn to sharing your speech and found your message regarding gambling ads very powerful. She will be sharing your speech in the Senate Chamber next Tuesday the 22nd between 1.30-2pm.
You can watch her share your speech live here'
The Senator's Office will also send a clip that our community to share on our social media pages when received.
Thanks also to Liz Rush, Liv and Phoebe's Year 9 English teacher, who encouraged her students to participate in the “Raise Our Voice” campaign promoted by the Humanities Department, as it provided valuable opportunities for political expression to many of Academy’s Year 9 students.

The MRC has been a hive of activity catering for students studying and preparing for exams. As exam season ends we turn now to our final couple of weeks with the students. The MRC has been beautifully decorated by Ms Salvo in the Christmas theme and we have many Christmas books available for borrowing. Holiday borrowing has begun so we encourage all members of our community to visit us for their Holiday reading.
