Footy Colours Day - Mphatso Fundraiser Update

Wow! We are really excited to share with you all that our Footy Colours Day Fundraiser, the “Buninyong Cup”, raised $1418.40 for Mphatso!

The sheer number of coins actually meant that the bank’s coin counting machine struggled to cope and we are completely blown away by the generosity of our school community.

$1418.40 would provide 28,368 bowls of porridge to the children who are part of the feeding program at Mphatso - and often the bowl of porridge would be their only food for the day.

$1500 (which we are really close to) covers the cost of running one nursery school for the year.

This is an incredible contribution that will be gratefully received by the Mphatso Children’s Foundation. It is also very timely, as things are really difficult in Malawi at the moment and the organisation is battling to keep all of their programs fully operational. This will really help make a difference!

Thank you Buninyong PS!

Police in Schools Visit

Today our years 3-6 students had a visit from Senior Des. Senior Des Hudson is our local youth resource officer who runs the very successful Police in Schools program. Participation in the program is every second year for schools, meaning we haven’t had the opportunity to have Des regularly visit our school in 2022.

We were lucky to have him come and chat to the students and offer some important reminders about keeping ourselves safe, including online safety when using devices. He also shared some information about personal safety and wellbeing, as well as telling some funny jokes and sharing some stories!

World Teachers Day - Friday 28th October

This year, World Teachers’ Day is on Friday 28 October. It is an opportunity to say thank you for the incredible contributions teachers make to our community.

We celebrate World Teachers’ Day by acknowledging how fortunate we are at Buninyong to have teachers who are enthusiastic, dedicated, talented and professional, who expertly guide students and contribute to making our school the great place it is.

We recognise the passion teachers have, and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom to maintain connections through flexible learning.

Remembrance Day - Friday 11th November

In a couple of weeks we will pause to mark Remembrance Day. This is an opportunity to pay our respects to the brave servicemen and women who risked their lives for us and our country.

In the lead up to this day, we will again support the Buninyong RSL and sell poppy pins and other items at school. The red poppy has come to symbolise remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.

Students (and parents!) are welcome to purchase these at the office.

We expect to have them arrive later in the week.
