Mathematics

Last week, we were once again visited by our numeracy consultant, Kathryn Palmer, to continue our commitment to refining our teaching practices in the area of Mathematics.

During her visit, Kathryn worked with members of our teaching staff to observe modelled lessons taught by members of our Year 2 and Prep teaching teams. The students within these classes were highly engaged and utilised a variety of materials to build and demonstrate their learning.

Staff involved then met with Kathryn to reflect on the quality practices used within these lessons and worked together to develop shared understandings on the most effective ways to teach concepts and support our students’ development. Kathryn then led the team in further reflecting on these new ideas to inform their future lesson planning to ensure students’ learning opportunities are of the highest standard.

The process has been a highly valued learning opportunity for all involved staff and we continue to be excited about our new learnings and what they mean for our students. Future work with Kathryn will commence in week 9 wherein she will work closely with teams to plan for term 1 in 2023 to ensure we hit the ground running from day one next year.
